Yeah really happy for this NZ side. Deserved winners. The one criticism of the NZ team over the years was that they relied heavily on two/three players but the quality in all areas is evident now and for years to come.

As far as India goes, it's opposite of what Kohli said after the game. There is a lot of fighting spirit in the team but what's lacking is the technical ability and application of the middle order (3-5).

I do think the BCCI needs to take responsibility for that, and make sure it doesn’t happen again. I am sure Ireland, for one, would have loved to have played a serious match against India prior to the WTC. The BCCI chose the venue, so I am pretty sure they had the clout to also get some extra game time in.
If the Test Championship final was in Sri Lanka then no practice games may have made sense, but here you're facing New Zealand and in the conditions they thrive at.

Precisely the reason why I never compare Pujara with Dravid. Pujara is mentally tough like Mike Atherton and will smother down hostile bowling, but he doesn't have the repertoire of shots like Dravid did.
He is nowhere close to the overall package that Dravid was.

might i just also add, like apropos of nothing, and with the caveat that every time NZ gets a new toy people say this, but jamieson could be a gamebreaker the next time you come to australia

none of your bowlers in the past ten years have really been known for their consistently steepling bounce. as great as soult are, they aren't the type of bowlers who normally succeed here. even wagner, who's known for his bouncers (and did do fairly well when you came here) barely gets them chest height (which is why he's so funny too); yet now you've got a guy who if you took the black caps logo off his shirt and watched him bowl, you'd say, "where'd australia get another man mountain to bowl pace". could he, could he, now be the final cog for a nz win down under eh? keen as to watch
hmm maybe. southee is significantly taller than boult and bowls corridor with great variation of seam and angle, and wagner and ferguson both bring obvious good attributes for australian tours, but while 2015 was the fault of two half fit bowlers and no test standard back up beyond them, 2019 was all to do with the batsmen.

an attack of hadlee, bond and cowie would have had an uphill climb defending the scores we made.

That's incredible. Here's India for comparison -

Rohit 60.77
Gill 31.84
Pujara 28.03
Kohli 42.45
Rahane 42.92
Pant 39.27
Jadeja 50.00 & 29.24
Ashwin 20.25 & 20.33
Ishant 17.79
Shami 20.47
Bumrah 25.11

Pretty awesome bowling numbers those. Doesn't even include Yadav's 29 wickets at 18, Axar's 27 at 10 and Siraj's 16 at 28.

Shame about the batting.

This would've hurt a lot more for me I think if we didn't go through the low of 36/9d and the best sporting moment of my life of the win in the Gabba test in the last 6 months. After that, I'm just grateful for the unending joy and solidarity in grief the sport has given me.

I think the averages for the New Zealand team were for their careers. These averages for the Indians are for the world test championship if I’m not mistaken.

I wonder if we’ll see some more rotation amongst the bowlers in the home summer. With Jamieson’s emergence, I’m not sure how Ferguson is ever going to get a game.
