Then maybe don’t host the inaugural showpiece final of a sport that can be affected by rain in a ****ing country where it ****ing rains regularly
Think everywhere that plays cricket would either have a rain risk and/or be too unbearably hot around this time of year. West Indies does rain less but saying it doesn't rain at all is a stretch.

I think the only realistic scenario to avoid any risk of rain was to have it around January.

Dubai - yea soulless and all but at least we’d have a match, not 5 days of rain, 30 overs on the 6th day and a shared trophy for an inaugural showpiece final.
Or you know, have viable backups in place that involve other nearby last minute venue changes or even I don’t know, extra days etc.

He'd said some things about spectator behavior in the Caribbean back on the '76 tour but I think that was uptight conditioning more than racism. He was scandalized by drink and gambling back then too. Don't think WI players themselves have ever held a grudge against him on that front seeing as how they used to go for lunch to his house on the rest day of the Bombay Test on later tours.
Never knew about that, news to me. I thought the west Indians wrote an ode about gavaskar.

If it had to be held at this time of the year, Dharmshala would be a fine venue. Temperature between 25-30 degrees and mostly blue skies. Occasional thundershowers to spice things up but no more than a couple of hours of lost time across 5 days.

I guess......but equally what happens if they move it because they fear rain and it doesn't rain at the original location but rains at the new one? Weather is a very tricky thing to predict.

Plus for all we know the next 5 days will be fine.
There was concrete evidence in this case. It's not like they predicted rain on one day and rest of the days were fine.

The odds of the scenario you are talking about is Like 1000/1.

how ****ing pathetic it is that a bunch of county games and a women's test in the same country are going ahead on time and yet the WTC final cannot happen coz lazy ICC and ECB could not keep a backup venue ready just in case English weather was gonna be English weather
i'd be highly surprised if many of the T20 county matches go ahead - maybe Yorks Essex Sussex, possibly Surrey (also preparing pitches for a T20 is slightly different than a Test final)

Some of y'all think moving an entire Test match on 1 month notice is as easy as changing dinner reservations.

The logistics are already ****ing immense and that's before you stop and consider that we are in the midst of a global ****ing pandemic

Agree that once Lords was no longer an option that Plan A should have been a venue like Dubai, but I can see how that would have been harsh on the ECB.

End of the day let's not forget whose to blame for all this - the CCP.
