Some of y'all think moving an entire Test match on 1 month notice is as easy as changing dinner reservations.
And you're talking as if it's as hard as stepping on to the moon.

Having a venue on stand-by means contingency plan for logistics and stuff would be planned in advance in case they have to move the venue in, say, a week's notice.

I don't know how much the current pandemic situation in UK would've effected the scenario but for a big event like the test championship final it would've been worth giving a try.

name one time you've seen any 5-day (6 days actually) long sporting event prepare to have the event held at a different part of the world just in case it rains a bit.

the logistics of preparing venue, staff, travel and hospitality arrangements, potentially for all of it to go unused based on the weather forecast 1 week out from it happening it's a ridiculous thing to expect, especially in the current times

And you're selling tickets for this thing as well. Explain that to fans. Buy a ticket in case it rains and we fly the whole show over to another part of the world.

And you're broadcasting it. Tell a TV channel to be on standby to move everything across just in case of bad weather, or to have teams and equipment on standby at another part of the world.

I never look forward to matches in England. Sure we can't control the weather, but something has to be done about it if weather is a constant issue in your part of the world. Can't they make at least a couple of cricket grounds with retractable roofs for key games?

It shouldn't be a big deal to increase the timeline to 7 days from 6. But it probably is because reasons.
It's one thing to plan for a 7-day long, 8-day long, or even a timeless test match. You know what you're getting into ahead of time and can make arrangements accordingly.

Changing a plan one week out, or even on month out, because of the weather forecast is another story altogether.

Is there a good reason to not increase the timeline to 7 days today? Will it inconvenience anyone/anything?

If there was a ball viable for both day and night they could play under lights as well and utilize every last bit of fair weather. Why should the players get to sleep when fans are willing to stay up at ungodly hours?

does the venue have other plans for that 7th day?
can all the players, umpires, staff make themselves available for the 7th day?
do the broadcasters have something else to show on that 7th day, and are they willing to pay for the crews and logistics to show a 7th day?
how about all the hotel bookings? enough accommodation for everyone?
can the flights be rescheduled? is everyone's visa valid if they want to stay another day.

Off the top of my head there are already so many things to consider, and I don't even organise Test matches. This is common sense. I imagine a person who actually does this for a living could probably name another dozen considerations to factor it.

oh **** off with the administration simping. no one cares. we know it's hard to just huck a game up the road. no one wants to read this after midnight. let the fans be annoyed and call england a hole in peace.

Can't believe such a terrible country invented cricket to begin with

For the first WTC final, these considerations all seem easy to solve by throwing money and influence and diplomacy and basic management at them.

Yeah while I think people are being irrational here, it's easy to see why they're being irrational.

For all we know they might be looking at this already. When India is involved almost anything is possible.

Is this as big a cluster**** as the '07 final? Admittedly no in-game snafus *yet* (let's give it time until the inevitable super over where NZ get shafted) but still what a **** look for the game.

At time like this we console ourselves with the fact that although our summers are modest we don’t get hurricanes, tornados, blizzards or other extreme weather conditions. :tabletalk
