2021 English Cricket Season

Attack for the NZ series could be interesting. Expect Robinson, Stone and COverton to all be in the mix for places. With Stokes/Woakes/Curran/Moeen all unavailable then they might need someone to bowl and bat 7 (if Leach plays) which you'd think would mean Overton, but would be good to see Ollie and Olly get games too.

I guess it depends on whether the management want to keep rotating Broad & Anderson and whether they still value Wood for home Tests (I'm sure he's in their Ashes plans).
Will the IPL players still be unavailable? I think they're back in the UK but I don't know how long they have to isolate.

Another round of matches trying to get started today, but this is one of the worst starts to a season that I can remember. Rory Burns starting well again, and he really needs to go on with it this time.

EDIT
Ian Blackwell umpiring in the Middlesex/Surrey match. Minor point of interest to those of us who remember him playing, especially in his pomp during the mid-2000s.

Well, it must be time for a belated debut for Darren Stevens, he's only got another 5 or 6 years left in him.
39 year old Tim Murtagh and Rikki Clarke playing in today's match at The Oval got me wondering about a Very Old XI still playing county cricket. No idea what the cut-off point should be, and others will have far more idea who's still playing anyway. I could think of Jimmy Anderson, and that was about it. Maybe over 35 years old? I'd be surprised if we couldn't think of eleven reasonable cricketers over 35 years old still playing.

Over 35 County XI (English qualified players)
1) Mitchell
2) Cook
3) Hildreth
4) Stevens
5) Croft
6) Clarke
7) Wessels
8) Bresnan
9) Berg
10) Murtagh
11) Anderson

Pretty handy!
Surprised Wessels is that old, makes me feel ridiculously old as I well remember his father playing.

Odd really, the lack of spin options, used to be tons of veteran spinners on the circuit, often a bit portly, possibly the effect of one-day cricket, where you want more dynamic spinners.

Nah Wright over Bresnan easily imo, unless you are looking for a specialist lower order batsman who will seldom bowl (and be next to useless when he does)

Would beat 3 or 4 current test teams with that line-up, particularly in England. ( Zim, Bangers, Afg, Sri Lanka)

Move over Bannerman!

The Beeb at one point suggested he'd made 76% of Kent's innings upon dismissal, sadly it's not quite that silly

I did work out he needed something in the low 200s to beat old grandpa robot

Getting caught off Labushane is truly the peak silliness too
Would have been nice to beat Bannerman but the fc record is 83% by Glenn turner, so wouldn't have ment much in the end.
