They seem to like opening with Virat. If that is the case,
Rohit
Virat
SKY
Pant
Hardik
Jaddu
Sundar
Shardul
Bhuvi
Chahar
Bumrah
wont mind this side tbh. More bowlers the better...
Feels like 1 batsman too few - Jadeja and Hardik both good but not sure I'd trust them as a number 5 and 6 without a close to specialist batsman behind them. Think such a lineup encourages more conservatism from Rohit and Virat as SKY and Pant especially the sort of players who could get out playing a poor shot first ball - not a criticism I think their positivity in middle overs is a good thing but it carries risk - potentially too much risk if you've only got 4 specialist batsman then Hardik and Jadeja - if you are in the semi-final and 20/2 after 3 overs India are in a big hole with such a relatively shallow batting lineup. I know Sundar can bat but I'd prefer a Rahul or more stable batsman in the top 5 if you are going to have Sundar at 7.
Sundar is two levels below both R Chahar and Axar as a spinner and practically useless as a batsman down the order. Do not want.
Shardul shouldn't even be in conversations. Bhuvi and D chahar cannot play together. That'd be India going back to a prank attack.
Sundar went at under 6 in the IPL last year, despite not being used at the best times this season he still is going at 7.37 an over. Axar and Sundar have very similar IPL records last year - Axar with one more wicket but also 0.5 rpo more expensive. Axar has a slightly better international T20 record but I'm not sure that's enough to suggest Axar is 2 levels above Sundar. Especially when Sundar is a powerplay bowling specialist and the seamers you've all named are good options for the death. Deepak Chahar has a good T20 record in India and has started this season decently - good with the new ball if you have Bumrah, Bhuvi and Siraj or Thakur they can all bowl at the death so you don't even really need D Chahar for that - get wickets with the new ball and he's fine. D Chahar wouldn't be in my first choice XI but if say a Bhuvi got injured you could use him as a new ball specialist - Siraj/Thakur and Bumrah could bowl 2 each in the final 4 overs and D Chahar maybe the 16th, you've also got Jadeja and H Pandya who could easily bowl 5 overs between them as well.
Might be controversial but I wouldn't write Chahal off quite yet either - it seems like 5 games have seen him gone from starter to public enemy number 1 almost. He has been a regular wicket taking threat for India for a few years and had 21 wickets in the IPL less than a year ago in IPL 2020. India could name as many as 22 players in their squad and given R Chahar is relatively untested internationally and its not like he didn't go for runs himself v England in the T20Is I'd want another wristspinner in the squad if I was India or at the very least Ashwin.
My 22 for WT20 would be the following I think
Kohli, Rohit, Dhawan, Rahul, Kishan, Suryakumar, Iyer, Pant, K Pandya H Pandya, Jadeja, Sundar, Thakur, D Chahar, B Kumar, Bumrah, Natarajan, Chahal, R Chahar, Ashwin ** Siraj **, Samson **
** = The ICC have expanded squad restrictions of 15 players and 8 backroom staff to 30 overall so squads could have up to 22 players - however, in the case they bring across a couple extra staff members as well as players I'd get rid of Samson, Siraj and Ashwin in that order
