I'd have Hetmyer in now ideally, Bravo needs to repay the faith - since his return to the side 354 runs in 19 innings @ 23.60 with a SR of 74.52 - needs to step up soon - a decent 37* in the first match at least. If he doesn't step up looking ahead to next World Cup hopefully Allen with experience could become a more integral part of side and top 7 could look something like: Lewis, Hope, Hetmyer, Pooran, Allen, Pollard, Holder. If Allen develops the batting is solid and plenty of bowling options with Holder, ideally another bowling allrounder and 3 bowlers + Allen and Pollard

36 off 94 for Bravo without boundaries. When you consider he's only hit 6 boundaries in his 100 balls so far it suggests he's facing dot balls off significantly more than half of his deliveries and hitting the boundary just 6% of the time whilst he's at it

I can't see Allen ever being a number 5. He is a good bowling no 8. With hope keeping as opener and Pollard 6 that allows you to have 4 genuine batman's in top 6

He was much more a batsman who bowls a bit domestically, batted at 6 v New Zealand A recently, agree he isn't someone I'd be confident in having at number 5 right now and he might not ever be but certainly hope he can develop as its not like he'd be doing a job completely unfamiliar to him, so I'm just hoping once he's handled the step up to international stage and finds out more about his game with time he could make that step up. Of course if someone makes a massive case for selection probably through a combination of domestic form and IPL/T20s before then that makes things easier and this was on assumption Bravo doesn't repay the faith - hopefully he can build on this hundred - pretty slow but left the side well placed (more down to urgency of others admittedly). Hopefully, a score in a hopefully matchwinning effort does good for his confidence

Surely S.D. Hope will be a good test batsman one day. Surely. So incredibly frustrating to me that he isn't the 40+ test average stalwart West Indies need right now. I don't see any reason at all why he can't be that. :(

Every time we'd win a series this anthem would be played on the local tv station:

For ten long years
We ruled the cricket world
Now the rule seems coming to an end
But down here
Just a ***** in the armour
Is enough, enough to lose a friend
Some of the old generals have retired and gone
And the runs don't come by as they did before
But when the Toussaints go the Dessalines come
We've lost the battle but yet we will win the war

Rally, rally round the West Indies
Now and forever
Rally, rally round the West Indies
Never say never

Pretty soon the runs are going to flow like water
Bringing so much joy to every son and daughter
Say we're going to rise again like a raging fire
As the sun shines you know we gonna take it higher

Rally, rally round the West Indies
Now and forever
Rally, rally round the West Indies

Way Down Under a warrior falls
Michael Holding falls in the heat of the battle
"Michael shoulda left long time!"
I heard an angry brother shout
Caribbean man, that, that, that is the root of our trouble
In these tiny theatres of conflict and confusion
Better known as the isles of the West Indies
We already know who brought us here
And who created this confusion
So I'm begging, begging my people please
Now they are making restrictions and laws to spoil our beauty
But in the end we shall prevail
This is not just cricket, this thing goes beyond the boundary
It's up to you and me to make sure that they fail
Soon we must take a side or be lost in the rubble
In a divided world that don't need islands no more
Are doomed forever to be at somebody's mercy?
Little keys can open up mighty doors

At least a fight in last two ODIs.

The lessons learnt should be

- The most ill disciplined could be your star players (Gunathilaka and Hasaranga. Dikwella only has indiscipline to show)
- Suranga Lakmal is SLs best fast bowler in any format. He gets people out at the top, and the most accurate
- Dasun Shanaka is a bowler, give him the ball damn.
- Mathews, Chandimal and Thissara Perera is done and dusted in limited overs format. Cannot see Mathews reviving himself to be a more attacking batsman, ditto Chandimal. Thissara is gone.
- Need of a right handed opener at the top. However since DK is in SL's opening average has risen beyond 50.
- Be prepared to be a minnow in ODI game once again.

Interesting to see Hosein bring out the carrom ball. Feels like we don't see it as often as in the early-mid 2010s.

Strange old series, a bit like the T20's but better. A heavily weakened Sri Lanka side fought and gave us a few problems and nervous moments. SL have to find a way of performing better in the middle overs to get enough runs on the board to win matches. I don't think they are a million miles off. Feels a bit like our ODI side under Holder a few years ago but with better spin options. I like watching them play, I hope they find a way once they have a full selection of players available.

As for us, it's just great to be learning how to win ODI's again. You can see a very strong team is slowly being developed and a winning habit put in place. Our batting when Hety returns will be insanely strong. But I still worry about new ball bowling and death bowling. Romario Shepherd did not look up to it (hopefully it was just his confidence being low after COVID, the Super50 final) and Anderson Phillip looks promising but not quite ready yet.

We need to experiment with the seamers to try and be more incisive and nail those yorkers at the death. The way I see our side shaping up at the moment:

Shai Hope (wk)
Evin Lewis
Shimron Hetmeyer
Darren Bravo/Jason Mohammed/Roston Chase (depending if spin is needed)
Nicholas Pooran (vc)
Kieron Pollard (c)
Jason Holder
Fabian Allen
Alzarri Joseph
Akheil Hossein
? (Romario Shepherd, Anderson Phillip, Nial Smith, Oshane Thomas, Keemo Paul, Hayden Walsh Jr)

I think pooran should go 4 with bravo at 3 and hety 5.
It would normally be an easy devision to leave out mohammed but he threw a spanner in the works by taking key wickets in the games for not many runs

I could live with Pooran higher up the order. Either way it's a strong batting card.
