Never argued otherwise. I personally find it distasteful, and somewhat uncharacteristic of Modi to let it happen, but there have been precedents before is what I am pointing out. Or say the case of Stalingrad for example. Or Alexandria in antiquity.just because someone else does it doesn't make it a good thing

As to Mandela- Resigned yes (thanks for correcting that), dead no. The supposed rationale for naming the stadium after Modi was that it was conceptualised when Modi was President of Gujarat Cricket Association. And he is no longer occupying that post. Given that iconic stadiums in India like Chepauk or Bengaluru are named after illustrious administrators, I find it in line with established precedent as well.
I also find it distasteful that some stadiums worldwide are up for naming rights based on who pay for it.
