The thing about players like that is, he has the shots to get runs when he gets set. Its obvious he picks the ball earlier than a regular batsman, but so does Pope. To me, Crawley looks more likely to make big runs and be a match winner coz he simply has more options to score runs than a Pope. Hence my prediction all the way back to last year's England - Pak series where I said he could be a better bet than Pope. Pope more Ian Bell while Crawley more KP/Root AFAIC.
Yeah I can agree with this, but it's ok having all the shots but if you don't know when to play them or how to read the conditions of the pitch you're going to struggle. Not sure I agree with the Ian Bell comparisons with Pope, it's too lazy just because they're similar in stature and technique and I'm not sure what to make about him yet, he's had some good knocks but he's yet to have that knock that stamps his authority on the game and look like he really belongs.

Well, you always give more of a rope to players who have the talent and technique AND the shots.

Also, my point of comparing Pope with Bell is in terms of ceiling, not in terms of batting style or anything.

I actually think that's a great description of his knock against SA. Came in on Day 1 at 100/4 away from home against a good attack, made a ton in a massive partnership with Stokes and set up the game.

I've been disappointed he hasn't really kicked on from that but it was a real 'arrival' type innings for sure.

Since May 2018 Bairstow has played 38 innings, 1 hundred, 24.33 average, bowled or LBW in 50% of his innings, why do we keep giving this clown chances?

When watching Ian Bell, I always felt he his technique was right there (or better) with all those greats of his time (Tendulkar, Pietersen, Ponting, Kallis, Dravid, Sangka, you name them). But somehow he didn't live up to it.

Crawley needs to bring the sweep out more, used both the conventional and reverse brilliantly to Yasir Shah during his double. Case of not trusting his game as much as a veteran like root overseas?
