kohli has not even had 10 tests on a trot where he has looked bad

maybe he needs to show some intent

Captaincy discussion aside, Kohli is still our best batsman and MVP going into the series in the absence of Jadeja. From events so far, it looks like we need at least a couple of big hundreds from him or we are shafted.

Yes, other batsmen don't appear capable of posting big daddy hundreds, except may be Rohit.

How good is Rahane as a batsman as compared to Mark Taylor who was probably the best Australian captain since Border ?
Is making Rahane permanent test captain feasible?
It would be epic if Kohli was magically peacefully replaced by Rahane as test captain but considering the reality of Kohli's status in Indian cricket:

India would be in giant trouble if Leach showed up. As it is I think if England want to win the series they should enforce the follow on if they have the chance (If India are bowled out for few enough to enable the chance to choose). Worth the risk in my view. England should back themselves to bat out a draw if needed as they won’t have to bat for long to do it if India get enough of a lead to declare. I see enforcing the follow on as a must if the chance comes

Yeah, England need at least four sessions to bowl us out. If Ashwin, Sundar, and the others can whittle down the deficit to say 220 or so, England's only chance will lie with enforcing the follow-on. Batting again is going to eat into far too much time; think India will back themselves to play out just the 90 overs on the last day.

Some interesting debate.

I occasionally follow Doctor Who forums and discussions and I've come to the conclusion that no one hates Doctor Who quite as much as Doctor Who fans.

I think a similar argument could be made about the Indian cricket team.

You have a range of immensely talented players, amongst the finest who have represented your country ever, and you knock them!

India are a modern power house in the sport we love and we all admire the skills on display. Brisbane was only a couple of weeks ago!

They are currently chasing the game here but I still anticipate a series win for the home side. Enjoy the Golden time!

Yeah don't understand this Kohli hate tbh. In all conditions against all oppositions, he is by far the best batsman by a long shot. I know some folks rate Kohli the player but not the captain and that's fair enough. But what has Rahane done to deserve the spot in the team? Leadership quality alone isn't justifiable reason. And others like Ashwin are too immature to be a captain.

So, unless someone suitable comes along with both performance and temperament, Kohli the captain shouldn't be going anywhere. Period.

England regularly lose the first Test of a home series and still end up winning. India haven't even lost this game yet, not even close, and it's doom and gloom.

It's a four Test series, you'll be fine.

If we can somehow cobble together another 100 runs slowly this morning I think we’ll be reasonably safe.

Is their any other keeper who can bat to a decent level that could justify a top 6 position to relieve Pant of the gloves?

Saha is to old and Rahul is no better than Pant with the gloves.

Looking at the first class numbers of Kishan, Samson and Bharat doesn't excite me.

Whatever it takes!!!

They consider (or considered) Bharat next in line. Ishan is pretty much the same as Pant, except that he has had the MI's moneybags coaching team working with him for a few years now. I hope he plays a lot of A series as the main keeper. We may be looking at Pant and Ishan as our two main keepers and they can pretty much be like for like replacements too.

For LO games, I guess they will look at Rahul and Samson in the same way. Rahul bats 5 in ODIs and opens in T20Is. Samson can do both jobs and can swap right in for Rahul if Rahul is injured or is being rested.

TFW you realize that India lost 4 wickets to aggressive shots yesterday and only 2 to defensive shots, and the defensive shot dismissals were Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. So much for #intent.
