Indian players racially abused at SCG

oh yeah i agree. but, in general, australian sport really is, or at least should, be moving past that. too much damage has been done, too many brilliant players driven from various codes to not have basically zero tolerance going forward.
crowds just have to use their brains imo (yea i know). experienced test cricketers who spend a lot of time on the boundary tend to have a sense of humour, but you've got to actually be funny or at least in good spirit.

plus even when it's not friendly rivalry stuff it takes a patient person to listen to a fresh chant of "give us a wave >name< give us a wave!" thirty seconds after your last wave and give the crowd their 17th wave of the day knowing you have 32 more to go (don't get me wrong i am all about players giving us a wave).

Indian spectator Rishi Aryan, who was seated in the same bay, told The Sydney Morning Herald and The Ageon Sunday: “All these boys were doing is a bit of sledging of the player on the outfield. First it was Bumrah then they had a sledge against Siraj. They kept calling him Shiraz and all that crap. Next thing you know they said: ‘Welcome to Sydney, Siraj’ and then he got the ****s. That was literally it. Then he walked off.

Or maybe not. Given that there are other people who have come out and backed this up I think old mate might be in a little trouble.

Well at least pay for their Day 5 ticket.

Is it really that surprising when players are just objects of entertainment owned by competing corporations at the end of the day? I sometimes doubt whether speccies fully appreciate they're just watching human beings play a game they happen to like.

We're all guilty of that though to some degree, the crap I splooge on an online forum about some chaps...

Yeah ****ing speccy bastards. When will they learn that we are all just organisms given a moment of colour and sound for the merest instant of a near incomprehensibly long Universal existence, and that ultimately nothing matters except for NZ winning the Test championship this year.

Taylor will be out LBW twice for scores in the teens, Kane will throw his wicket away and Nicholls will be the only limp resistance offered in both innings. Defeat by 150 runs.

It's happening, and you will never stop it.

At the end of the day yelling **** at players its pretty much fair enough for the players to draw the line on when enough is enough.
To add to that, the Indian team has been away from home for a number of months now and going through constant Covid restrictions, etc. It can't be easy for them mental health-wise and to make matters worse, they've got idiots in the crowd yelling abuse at them. I can imagine some of the younger members of the team are finding it difficult.

Apparently the scums were the same bunch who abused Siraj yesterday as well. CA has issued apology to India but I think an example should be set in terms of criminal action against these ****s like imprisonment.
Oh hi. we’ve missed you in the match thread since India started going like a busted arse

Should change thread title to "alleged racial abuse". Many posts and videos showing all they did was call Siraj Shiraz which is not racist.

Even facebook shows a fact warning if unproven claims are made.

someone who knows that history more than me can clarify. but from what i've seen from viewing cricket in india on tv, the spectators seem to mostly either keep quiet or yell, depending on what happened in the game.

it's definitely a different spectating culture to what you get in the uk/aus/nz/sa.

yeah that was my understanding too. they got mad at bad performances - which, in those days, were common - and started throwing ****.
Youre aware of the “Symonds is a monkey” thing, right?

but tbf you’d like to think we’ve all moved on from this sort of **** by now. Fmd it’s as tiresome as it is vile

Yeah it’d be good to clarify this. Itd be totally different if those blokes yelled cow related things to Siraj because they’re so ignorant they not only think all Indians are Hindu, but that ripping into cultural belief systems is anyway acceptable.
