Oh wow i did not realise this split at all
What are the source for the speeds? Made up? Or from something?
I remember him as 125km in that nz series.
Definitely interesting re: the injury, but those speeds are just made up lol...I distinctly recall gun-Abbas basically just bowling 120s

Speeds are not made up. I have seen his 1st 59 Wickets on YouTube where almost all of his deliveries are 128kph+ (80mph+) & some are bowled at 85mph.
(YouTube has taken down that video due to copyrights. Fortunately, I had downloaded that video. Don't know if I can upload that video here)

Speed hasn't been the issue but he does lack bite now
bcz post injury Abbas is bowling at ≈122kph.
Pre injury Abbas used to bowl at ≈128kph+

Tight start this morning, in that limbo period with the nightwatchman still in and runs not flowing, but at the same time Abbas looks quite solid.

Agree with commentators that Boult must be getting a little frustrated, bowling ok but not getting the results. He was probably feeling similar prior to the India series last summer and then took a handful (11 in 2 tests).

This match is becoming dull pretty quickly, has draw written all over it. Still absolutely nothing in it for the bowlers.
It's a day 3 pitch.

Sure it's flat but there's probably gonna be some reverse swing available at some point and also a bit of variable bounce coming up. Also we have the bowlers who know how to toil and enough points of difference in our attack to be confident of forcing an opening. It really is a very well rounded attack so long as Wagner is fit to bowl today. Would be nice to have a quality spinner but that would be getting greedy.

Jamieson's extra height such an advantage in generating variable bounce. The one that kept slightly low earlier is more of a contrast when the typical bounce is high, while occasionally gets one to rear. Hope Abid's finger isn't broken.

Good first over from Santner, actually.

Wagner has an uncanny ability to get into that uncomfortable throat area.

Jameison meanwhile just seems to have the knack to **** up batsmen's hands.

Very disciplined batting from pakistan so far. Some of the leaving yesterday was impressive.
The draw paying $4.15 at the tab this morning was excellent odds.
It's still $2.90 although I think with the variable bounce NZ are still favs

I don't know what happened there. Think the hit unsettled him. Jamieson is bowling with a cheat code. Ugh.

yeah Jamieson has that rare ability of a tall bowler to bowl a full ball. It's such a great point of difference in the attack and so hard to read when it's coming from that high of an angle.

Gee I hope he stays fit.

The whole Test its been difficult to score runs, and also difficult to take wickets. Day 2-3 as you say should be ideal for batting (run-scoring) to move the game along.

I was hoping for a good result pitch to press our chances for the WTC Final - this isn't a typical NZ pitch to me. A draw here, and it's very difficult for us with India looking odds on in Melbourne, so the pressure is well and truly on.

"If NZ repeat the 2-0 result against Pakistan later in their summer, they will end with 420 points from five series.

That will leave India needing five wins - or four wins and three draws - out of their last eight Tests (away against Australia and at home against England) to deny New Zealand a place in the WTC final to be played at Lord's in the English summer."
