Don’t think it’s as much about trying to make a test cricketer out of Santner as the decision to play the pace quartet at any cost. When it comes to combinations they obviously feel 4 quicks > any 3 quicks+Ajaz, at home. Hence the need for a spinner who can wheel away while they get a rest, as Kippax pointed out. CdG being ruled out is the thing that worked against Ajaz here, he would have been able to take on the 4th seamer role as well as no.7 to a respectable degree (truly a case of a player’s worth being apparent in their absence).

Problem I have with the selection is a) Despite that 3 for 53 off 40 last year Santa isn’t accurate enough for the role he’s been picked for and b) just don’t like the idea of a batting lineup with Santner at 7, gives the opposition a real chance if it’s one if those days the top 6 collectively go missing.
Yeah I haven't really heard a great alternative put forward to it though, that's the thing. Ravindra to strengthen the batting, but then leave very lush grass on for the first morning to make sure all eyes aren't turning towards him late in the game? Rachin plus something a bit wacky like Somerville for Boult?

Worth pointing out for readers of the thread who only follow internationals that Ajaz hasn't featured in any format for Central Districts since March, and I don't think he's even had a club game. He needed to get into that latest NZA four-dayer, but was only put forward by the advisors of his recovery for light training.

i don't rate santner at all even as a 'containing bowler' but if mt maunganui is dry and ajaz is totally underdone then some form of spin bowling #7 needs to play to soak up overs and we go all in on the quartet again.

santner is probably the best horse for the course right now. rachin's bowling is too raw and mcconchie is a batsman who bowls part time.

Yes I'd sneakily like Stead and Larsen to start paying the piper for this Santner at No. 7 on top of the Blundell-Young-Conway nonsense.

Report to a stern and haughty Pakistan pace attack and confess that lack of Dave Dobbyn's 'Welcome Home' warmth you extended towards the stern and haughty new migrant Conway, who tried and failed to rectify your cricket culture's lack of respect for the more traditional notions of hierarchy, purity and grace. Mere guttersnipes and lightweight seekers of a good consumer experience, all of you.

Rizwan's a pretty good-looking guy eh? Good match up against Southee, especially when it comes to pulling chicks above sea level

Can anyone confirm that the script in the star is just Pepsi in Urdu?

If so does Pepsi pay less for the sponsorship given most people can't read it?
Haha, I think we all would've been VERY embarrassed if it said Pepsi. I mean it would at least be in the top 20 list of things to be embarrassed about with PCB.

Haha, man I love Scotty Stevenson eh, some of his quips are great.

Overall, I think Sparks coverage is pretty damn good. Phillips was hilarious on the mic last night.

I wish the commentators would pronounce Seifert's name properly though, they all say Seiferd... haha.

Conway looks the goods. Annoys me that Southee has done relatively well - I don't want him anywhere near the white ball squads.

Also tried not to vomit in my mouth Kuggeleijn was on screen - did pretty well actually.

tbh we're getting southee in all formats whether we like it or not until he pulls the pin so it's best to just hope he can play to his talent level which he seems to be doing now.

the carry through to watling/seifert he gets right now compared to this time last year is incomparable.

hopefully he's recovered from whatever bowling issues he was having because 124kph and dying on watling was really worrying me, regardless of the raw wickets numbers he was getting. he looked like bowlers do on their way out.

been said before, but he's been gun at tests no question. T20 i'm ambivalent about him, definitely shouldn't be in the ODI squad. Henry, Ferguson, Boult is where it's at.
