************Official IPL 2020******

Whatever it takes!!!
They need to rejig their batting order and promote the guys who are striking it cleanly atm. Either of Jadeja or Curran (I prefer Curran) has to bat between 1-4 to give the innings some momentum.
I would like to see Santner for Watson. The issue for CSK is guys like Watson, MSD and even Rayudu do not seem to play any other cricket and with the covid lockdowns, its obvious it is taking its toll physically on this group especially. But it is what it is and this is the side we have. I mentioned earlier, I think this is very close to the best 11 we can get. Santner for Watson next game just to try it out and also to have the additonal bowling option. He was coached to pinch hit as an opener all of last year's IPL apparently, so why not make use of it now?

Santner
Faf
Rayudu
Jaddu
MSD
Jadhav
Curran
Bravo
Chahar
Thakur
Chawla

At some point, I would like to see Karn play instead of Chawla too. But seriously dont think 6 out of the next 10 is that tough in these conditions for CSK. I wont be writing them off anytime soon.

If u look at their bowling, they have Hazlewood, Tahir, Santner, Ngidi, Karn on the bench. That is good enough for an international attack really for T20s. So the bowling has to take more responsibility... the fielding, especially the catching has to be more sharp. And they need to cut down on indiscipline in the field and with the ball. Their batting is solid enough to chase down par totals all IPL. So again, wont write them off this early

Did Dhoni do it again? I've only seen the scorecard but it certainly looks that way. Still had some batting to come too.

Also Watson's done. CSK expecting him to be the Watson of 3-4 years ago but it won't happen.

I read the commentary and he basically tried to hit even early on, but failed miserably. Then he bopped a few at the end which made him end up with a decent score.

Bit different from the 5d chess Dhoni of the last few years who would nudge and nurdle his way around till the RRR got out of hand, but the effect was basically the same.

Its very simple, really. CSK's batting is woeful. The 11 they had out there yesterday were the best they had. The ones in the dug out are even worse and it s obvious how big Raina has been in holding this batting together, even if he has not been the ace he was for the first 8 years. I would look at getting in Santner for Watson next game but apart from that and maybe Karn for Chawla, there are not any changes that can actually make this side stronger. One thing about this batting is it is set up to chase down par scores. So the onus is on the bowlling and the fielding to ensure that happens. The bowling side of CSK is far stronger than the batting side. If they can get back to their USP of the past which is to play with discipline in all 3 facets, they can make the playoffs still. If not, it will be a pipe dream.

What I mean by discipline, of course, is to provide very few extras, especially no balls and not drop straight forward chances and produce unnecessary over throws.

I actually quite enjoy the IPL, and have really enjoyed it so far this season. I work nights and the games are on when I finish work so I've generally watched most of a game per day for over a decade. It's pretty inarguable that the fielding standards are hilariously bad every year, though I'm sure a lot of it has to do with conditions.

But you can continue to take vague criticisms as personal attacks on your character if you so wish.
In that case, accept my apology. There just happen to be plenty of annoying ones of the kind I mentioned.

The problem with that bowling squad is they're mostly foreigners. The 4 internationals only rule is really doing over CSK; I don't think they can do without Watson (rusty or not, because you simply don't have the explosive opening potential elsewhere), du Plessis, and Curran, which means you can have only one out of the four good bowlers you mentioned up there. They really need to allow 5 internationals to take the field if this tournament has to justify quality-wise the money involved.

I see Stokes is on his way to Dubai, and could be eligble for RR from 11th October. I guess Curran is the obvious choice to make way for him

To be in Padikkal's shoes; 20 years old, talented, batting with the Indian captain. Dibs on him being the next young'un to wear national colors.
