Yes and I think there were Wasim Vs Waqar politics. Plus he got injured a couple of times. Combination of factors really. And I think Anwar really established himself only in the mid 90s in all formats.
Played some gun knocks in all of Australia, SA and England. Not many Asian openers can claim that. Just an infuriating career trajectory.

Whatever it takes!!!
Yeah, loved watching him bat. Reallly the only criticism I used to have of him at that time was that he did not make double centuries and stuff in tests but that is more coz I thought he was that good than any real issues.

With Kapil and Bumrah, don't think you need both Srinath AND Zaheer. You can get ~10 overs out of Sachin, Yuvi, Raina anyway. Swap one of Srinath and Zaheer for Jadeja - strengthens both batting and fielding. Not a gun bowler in ODIs but enough to contribute and strengthens the other parts significantly because Kumble > Khan > Srinath > Bumrah is not a good lower order to play vs the other teams. Jadeja in there below Kapil gives you a fighting chance (as New Zealand found out).

Rohit averages 58 to Dhawan's 45. They have a two point difference in SR.
Yeah but Dhawan's a better starter and does better than Rohit against better opponents in important games. Just doesn't go as big. Hence, "in a strong team" part.

Interestingly Anwar's test record is more balanced in all countries. In ODIs it's quite lopsided with averages in Aus and SA very ordinary. This is contrary to what I expected based on his reputation as a great limited over batsman.

Yeah it's odd. I've never really looked at country wise averages in ODIs as keenly because conditions generally vary less. Ordinary record against those 2 overall though. Looks like he kept getting pwned by Donald. Still, was an early version of Rohit imo.

Agree. It's not something i pay much attention to either in ODIs. His test record being so well rounded is more pertinent. Averaged 40+ in all countries that mattered except 34.xx in SA which is not terrible for your worst performance conditions.

Sachin's ODI record was also somewhat poorer in these countries, I think they were capable of batting in these conditions but raising the tempo against home team wasn't quite that easy and you are forced to do that in ODIs.

Considering it came against peak Donald and Pollock and included a glorious ton I wouldn't call it bad at all. Mid 30s against 2 ATG new ball bowlers in helpful conditions is decent.

This is my team. Depth in batting with good hitters at the end and a good lower order. Yuvraj, Raina, Sehwag or Tendulkar can chip in when required for 6th bowling duties.

Agarkar always got the wickets when needed in ODIs. Deserves to be in contention with him also being a much better bat than Zaheer and Srinath.

Forcing ABD to keep is ridiculous, he has never kept against even a half-decent spinner, nor was he anywhere near as good as Gilly against the pacers. And what's more he didn't enjoy it personally, ABD keeping is the kinda thing that would make the team look grand on paper and then you wonder how you are losing 3 games in a row against crap sides.
Even worse when South Africa had him as their 5th bowler.
When we (NZ) beat them in 2011 qf they picked WAY too many bowling options and no batting depth (AB keeping, Botha and Petersen at 7 and 8!!!! and Kallis and Duminy at 6th and 7th bowlers), then in 2015 they had 4 bowlers then Duminy and even AB bowled - terrible team composition on both occasions.
