Sri Lanka have overachieved massively in World Cups haven't they? At least up until 2015

1996 - win
2003 - semi
2007 - final
2011 - final

not bad for a small Island
Sri Lanka had a great ODI side for around 15 years or so, even if the majority of that time they were slightly behind Australia and South Africa.

Wow South Africa were dominant between the 96 and 99 WC's. Even in the 99 WC itself they basically had steamrolled everyone until Herschelle Gibbs dropped that catch.

SA and SL were the teams to beat in that period. Migara pointed this out some time back and got attacked for it.

99 world cup changed all this.

Whatever it takes!!!
I think more than just the WC, the whole Hansie-gate is when the power really shifted IMO. But of course, it may well be the WC result that led Cronje down that spiral.

Waugh must have been thinking, "Why aren't they gathering around the umpire and claiming it?"
I always think the same thing when I see the replays. Straight away Gibbs is like "oh damn I dropped it". You just know if that was Smith or Kohli they would have tried their best to convince the umps it was still a catch.
Makes you wonder if it was all "part of the plan"

Bit weird. Seems like that would be common sense.

I think that's coz it was in a thread I made where I explicitly stated I was talking about tests and he posted a bunch of ODI stats showing SLs dominance

Stats can be deceptive though. Twice during the period Australia beat South Africa - home and away.

South Africa spent 1996 spanking England, India and Pakistan. In 1997 they lost to Australia, barely, but spanked India and Zimbabwe. 1998 saw them lose a tri series with NZ and Australia to Australia and then spank Pakistan, Sri Lanka and England for the rest of the year.

Given that Australia's results during the period weren't exactly dominating it's probably fair to say that Australia were not only South Africa's bogey team, they were the only side with a psychological advantage over them going into the 1999 world cup.

In fact, I don't think South Africa won a single ODI series in the 90s in which Australia participated.

During Titan Cup in India, SA defeated Aus in 3 games out of 3 without losing a sweat. Australia with less than 1 win to lose ratio can't be argued to have been better than a team with win/loss ratio of 3.5 no matter what country and opposition filters you apply.

I understand that constantly relating things to saying something positive about Australia can be annoying to many, but just pointing out that stephen didn't say this. You're being overly sensitive and this is a strawman.

You are right about what's annoying. It's not about Australia all the time. And whole in subcontinent or against subcontinent slight on other teams all the time is completely ****.
