What an absolutely perfect day for England. I'd like to say I can't believe people were whinging, but I can because a lot of fans fundamentally do not understand test cricket.

Gotta give it to Broad, on a high right now.

Since 2011, Broad and Anderson have taken 500 wickets between them in England with 24 5-fers and very even stats, particularly SR of 49 each.

It has been. They still should have been scoring quicker in the afternoon session though.

friendly reminder that england dropped this bloke for the first test

his renaissance since the 2018 New Zealand tour has been so so good
Which most of us went mental over. He is a quality bowler and looks like he could carry on for a while yet and chase down Jimmy's end total.

This around the wicket to the left handed opener tactic is absolutely lethal. Borderline unplayable.

Without Sibley and Burns sucking everything out of the bowling Root couldn't have come out and done what he did in hidnsight. Think the 2nd team 50 could've come up a bit faster. It's nitpicking now though.

Nah it was nonsense from start to finish. The odds on an England win never went out at any stage.
Yeah it stayed the same, look you were the one to suggest it was a Lou Reed, in the end, if we had scored a tad quicker, we may have got more overs Broad may have got 500, this would be more perfect, without stretching the seams of impossibility.

Hey I was happy with it, and didn't compain, great to see an opening partnership develop, no matter how aesthetically unpleasing they are, Root and Broad were then top-class. Could have done without Archer and Woakes bowling at all either. Was bizarre not to see the old firm right away.

Yeah it was the second half of the session really, It is not a big deal at all but you should really not be scoring at under 3 an over in those situations. Of course it is a small thing compared to the benefits of these two so far.

England never got rid of rest days. These days it just happens to be whichever day gets rained out.

Effectively day 4 though. If they were not factoring in rain tomorrow then they would not have declared.
and with all that said they're still 400 ahead on day 3 versus a team that look like they wouldn't score 400 once if this were a 10 match series.

enjoy the fact England are opening with what looks like a competent pair
