I guess the "he is too laid back, doesn't take it seriously enough" when applied to Mark Waugh and David Gower was also racism then....

I'm not saying it was necessarily a fair label for Waugh or Gower either, but they were strokemakers. Archer is an express bowler who got himself in injury trouble by frequently bowling 10-over-plus spells. There's no way he's getting the "too laid back" tag if he's white.

Don't get this at all. Suddenly the batting lineup looks all wrong again, after the best stretch of batting innings we've had in years.

They clearly just couldn't cope with choosing between three of the six pacers offered.

I get that they're unsure if Stokes can bowl, but clearly there's a qualifier there that he might be fine, and Root can bowl a bit if it spins. Doesn't seem worth weakening the batting.

i was skeptical of the crawley selection in the first place but why the **** would you drop the guy after he's shown some grit and been asked to do one of the hardest jobs in cricket?

english selectors fmd. haven't checked the team sheets yet but the pace trio better be anderson/broad/archer.

Dropping a seamer for a spinner and then bowling first is pretty counter-intuitive. Kinda seems like not trusting the WI top order despite retaining them.

I can't help but feel there is no need for a toss when we play. The opposition bat first, we bowl first because we're terrified at how rubbish our batting lineup is.

Eh, seems consistent enough to me. They're still balanced enough to just decide based on the conditions.
