*Official* West Indies Tour of England 2020

I would have had Woakes, Leach, Broad,
Anderson. I wouldn?t pick Archer ahead of Woakes in England personally. I wouldn?t pick Bess ahead of Leach anywhere.

West Indies selectors being on the reefer would explain a lot of things
Indeed! Holder it seems will do anything to keep Rakheem out of the XI, even describing Chase as a frontline spinner in his column for the Daily Mail.

why do people want bess dropped? england need to calm down and stick with a spinner. bess has done good things.
Yeah as above really, he's just a better finished product right now. Keep Bess around though, the two of them together in the subcontinent could be decent.

Yeah from what I've seen so far preferring Leach for this one test for tactical reasons seems reasonable, akin to how you'd rather play Leach over Woakes if they were playing in Asia. Not really a 'drop Bess forever' call.

My take is opting for Bess maybe suggests an Anderson, Archer & Broad seam attack.

Adding Leach to those 3 seamers would give us the longest tail we've had this millennium, probably. Bess at #8 gives a wee bit more security.

If Woakes or Curran plays I'm calling bullshit on Ed though.

Holder needs an intervention. This lack of insight is harming his mental state.

Denying Chase to be a natural batsman is one of the problems in this team.

Absolutely this. Seeing Bess take a few wickets and turn the ball so much on that final day whilst Rakheem, who from what I've seen of both of them, is a far superior spinner, was on the bench was painful. Like scoring a spectacular own goal.

Really horrible captaincy. On one hand they're resting people after one game and on the other they're giving their star player 11 over spells after batting for ages.

Whatever it takes!!!
On current form, he's probably as good a batsman as anyone going around in the country so not altogether stupid. Besides if the situation calls for it I'm sure Stokes will be the first to demand a bowl, playing solely as batsman be damned.

No, the stupid part was Root giving him an unbroken 11 over spell in the Windies first innings after he had batted the small matter of almost 400 balls. Stokes is like Baahubali and Root is like Queen Sivakami.

Ah ok...yeah that was crap. I wonder how long Root can keep the captaincy seeing as how Stokes really is the spiritual leader of this England side, or at least the one others are most likely to look up to.

Agreed, and that spinner should probably be Leach based on about 6 years of Domestic cricket and what he has done in Tests so far.

Having said that, spinners need rhythm in bowling, so after picking Bess for the first 2 matches don't think they should change, as he's done nowt disastrous. Same with Buttler over Foakes, wouldn't have been in my team at the start of the series, but got to keep with him now. Mind you with Stokes not able to bowl, Root maybe our spinner.

and yes, Root was stupid, and Vaughan is a ****ing idjit,
