Root is out because his baby is due.

Other than that, it's the proper English batting lineup, no matter how rubbish that might look right now.
Been a while without cricket but from memory don't they usually at least have Bairstow? And what happened to Alistair Cook, David Gower, Jack Hobbs and that WG Grace kid.

Also how is Mark Wood playing ahead of Broad and Woakes

excellent start from the windies with the bat but they've got to keep the foot and the throats now because any chase will be tricky on a fourth or fifth day, even if it's only 150 - so they can't get complacent. would love to see them rack up 300 more tomorrow and then declare 150 ahead with a brace of days in the bank tbh.

Under no circumstance should they be declaring, unless the weather has meant it’s nearing the end of Day 4 and they’re still batting

Would it really be that tricky on the 4th or 5th day if the pitch hasn't been used for 2 days?

344 runs @ 18ish across ten Tests in 2019.

Surely there’s 0 chance they declare here

For all the criticism of Root's output over the last couple of years (largely justified), this English batting lineup looks very, very shaky without him.

Whatever it takes!!!
So my predictions were off by 20 runs (predicted: 60-5 to 150-5 to 180 all out - actual: 80-5 to 150-5 to 200 all out). I predicted Windies making 250, guess they will make 230, although I really do hope they can hit 300 and a 100 run lead with a 100 from Hope or Holder.

Best day of batting ahead here for the Windies. They really need to take advantage of it

It was discussed before, but Brathwaite soaking up deliveries is vital. A 120 ball 50 would do quite nicely here

Anyone seen this? Since Jan 2018 in Test cricket:

Joe Root batting avge = 39.98
Jimmy Anderson bowling avge = 22.46

Jason Holder batting avge = 42.50
Jason Holder bowling avge = 13.58

Holder literally a better cricketer than Root and Anderson combined

At least get his name right.

Holder is genuinely world class. I'd back wi to be in the game even if they get no lead because I can see eng getting shot out for nothing in the second innings

Well you could be right about Wood, but he's sending down some heat and is atleast delivering what he's picked for.
Yeah he is, but tbh pace of itself means **** all at the level these guys play, unless you have some sort of action which makes the ball hard to pick up (Thommo, peak Johnson etc) and/ or you're moving it around. Even more so in England. Look at Lee. Was yards quicker than Wood and went the journey in The Land of the Damp Grey Squib on two tours.

I know someone on here was saying they're (understandably because it's all that counts) looking at Archer and Wood here with a view to touring Australia down the track, and I get that because pace works here. But it only works if you bowl the right lengths and you're capable of bowling it for longish spells. Archer has another gear and can dial it back/ bowl cutters etc. Not sure what Wood offers in that regard. Guess we'll find out in due course if he's fit and is selected.
