Doubt it. Literally no spinner did well in the tournament, was all about the fast bowlers. Loved it.

Shami was gun. Played less than half the games and still ended up top 10 or something iirc.

Yup. Those 3 plus Pandya and top spinner will be a good combo. And the top spinner appears to be Jadeja. This will give good batting depth too with only Shami and Bumrah incapable of holding bat properly.

Still needs a batsman who can bowl. I am pissed off they are not trying Suryakumar Yadav and keep selecting Jadhav. Its time to move on IMO. Surya/3D and maybe that boy Parag (I think) from Assam who plays for RR. They can be groomed for this role. Or if Manoj Tiwary can actually sort out what he wants to bowl and is in good bowling form, him.

Yeah I don't mind Suryakumar Yadav being given a shot because while Jadhav's a good bat, if they're not going to use his bowling at all then I'd rather we move on and other batsmen who can roll their arm over.

However in our search for a 6th bowler I really hope we don't persist with norounders like Dube and Shankar. The middle order is only just looking stronger, no need to set it back again.

Dube does not have the same batting talent as Shankar. But Shankar seems to be squandering his opportunties too. One thing in his favor is he is a gun fielder as well. Either way, if we are looking for batsmen who can bowl, these would be the guys I will look at:

1. Suryakumar Yadav
2. Riyan Parag
3. Manoj Tiwary (fitness dependent and bowling form dependent)
4. Vijay Shankar

If other names come up during the IPL, we can try them too. We should really use the next 2 years to sort out the WC side in 50 overs. I feel we have a better handle on the T20 side though coz Washington plays a big role there. Maybe Jaddu can bat at 5 or 6 for CSK and improve his striking from ball 1, which would really set us up nicely for that WT20 there in Aus.


EDIT: I will consider Dube if he can work out more hitting options coz he s big and strong and left handed and can go at it from ball 1. We need that in our LO sides. I don't think we should give up on him that easily.

Couldn't agree more. Neither should we be playing Jadeja or Pandya as 6th bowling option. They fit in the top five mandatory bowlers, not options.

I think you could play Jadeja + Pandya + Shankar/Dube + 3 bowlers and that could work alright. But then you're only playing one of Kulcha with Jadeja as second spinner.

If you want to play Kulcha + 2 quicks + Pandya, then Jadeja doesn't fit in.

Besides SKYadav can both bowl military medium pace and offies plus his List A SR is 99 and his T20 SR is 140 so the guy can obviously strike it well.

Dube should try a career in modelling. I think only reason he plays in the XI is because Kohli likes his looks.

Hmm.. on one hand, NZ is a graveyard for Ashwin's style of bowling, then again, Lyon's had great success whenever he has bowled to NZ, so not sure what to make of this. But there probably isn't much overlap in the NZ and NZ A batting lineups, so can't read much into it.

That's because Lyon is a better bowler.

I wouldn't mind picking Jadeja as the lone spinner tbh even though I don't think he has a real match turning spell in him either.
