Never liked or cared for Bill Lawry's commentary. He was like the Channel 9 LS.

Bill was great. He was a part of the holy trinity of commentary - Benaud, Lawry and Grieg.

I dunno he's had a long enough career now and averages a lot

Both and Smith have a crazy high tons to tests ratio so I guess their RPI stat is beefed up

Nah.. his schtick did not work for me and his insights were never any good. I always thought the post 2000 Benaud was over rated too. Greig the only one I had time for in that period. The 90s Benaud and then Chappell and Greig were the real holy trinity of Channel 9 commentary.

G Smith should have been born an Englishman. He was good without being great in South Africa, but in England he scored 5 tons in 12 tests.

I always got the feeling that he didn't mind movement but couldn't really handle pace off the wicket that well. Nor was he great against spin. Unlike Hayden who was better against pace and spin but couldn't handle movement quite so well. Whoever said that he'd be a good partner for either Hayden or Sehwag in an XI of that era was right.

I find it hard to rate Smith as being better than either Hayden or Sehwag. A big part of being a truly great opener is dominating in home conditions, which gives your side a platform to dominate at home. Smith never really did that.

Physically Warne was about 3 times what Ashwin is

Hutton's career record is remarkable when you consider how many of his prime years he missed out on due to the war and the injury. Couldve had over 10k runs.

Faced him in Estraya in the offseason. Played a couple of useful 70 odds iirc to save a game. Got bowled by Warne though

Bowled off the rough once and caught at long on another time, trying to hoic him for a six.

Hutton's career record is remarkable when you consider how many of his prime years he missed out on due to the war and the injury. Couldve had over 10k runs.

Bradman missed 7 years in his prime due to World War 2. Bradman scored 45000+ runs and 19 centuries between 1930-1938. If Bradman played during that time, he would scored another 4000 odd runs and 20 odd centuries. Bradman would have ended his career with 10000+ runs and 50 centuries. Truly the GOAT.

Yeah but his opinions were good. Lawry had zero insight from whenever I used to watch.

Seriously does no one want to talk about that great batsman who scored a triple versus O'Reilly as a young'un then came out on top against Lindwall and Miller basically trying to Bodyline him without being able to hook because one of his arms was shorter than the other? Probably one of my favourite players of all time. An adjusted SR of 44 isn't half bad either. Between that victorious Ashes tour of Australia and the 1953/54 tour of WI it is hard to pick Hutton's greatest achievement.

Barrington ahead of Hutton is a real buzzkill though.

sangakkara can play fast bowling. scored a ridiculous ton against bond on a green deck before crossing the tasman to score big against the aussies at hobart. not his fault he doesn't get to play australia or england in a massively one sided affair every 18 months that's supposed to be crickets premier series.

why the sudden barrington hate from you? you didn't have to sit through it for a start he's like 100000 years older than you.

i don't really have much of an opinion on atgs from so long ago apart from total respect.
