Admittedly that last side is the least balanced without a spinner or a quality all rounder. But they do have possibly the greatest fast bowling attack and a very strong batting lineup.

I guess you could replace McGrath with Kumble in that third lineup if you really do need a spinner. Feels wrong not picking McGrath for any side though. I guess you could push Pollock out for Kumble and that might work better, albeit with a weaker tail.

It is kind of weird to have the best pacer of the last 33 years down in the third XI though.
Yeah. I do expect that the second XI would regularly beat the first XI. A middle order with Ponting, Lara, Smith and Waugh isn't losing many matches.

International Captain
To play against:

Sehwag (2005-07)
G Smith (2008-10)
Ponting (2002-04)
Lara (1996-98)
S Smith (2014-17)
S Waugh (1999-01)
Dhoni (2011-13)
Warne (1993-95)
Marshall (87-89)
Cummins (2017-20)
Walsh (1990-92)
Waqar in place of Walsh, may be?

Bit of a coin flip but Waqar was probably better over the period and possibly offers a bit more variety than Walsh. Still, hard to argue against Walsh. One does not simply take 500 wickets as a test match quick.

Whatever it takes!!!
The second team contains more of my favorite players. But the first team has the variety with Wasim. Don't discount that in a game of what will be very small percentages. :)
