If Australia A joined the Test World Championship with the aim of winning it, not just development, who would you pick? Anyone outside the XI weve picked the last 3 tests is available.

01 Marcus Harris
02 Usman Khawaja
03 Will Pucovski
04 Shaun Marsh
05 Kurtis Patterson
06 Moises Henriques
07 Alex Carey
08 James Pattinson
09 Michael Neser
10 Steve O'Keefe
11 Jhye Richardson

12 Cameron Green
more of a question, how well would it do?

win about half the tests at home and get absolutely flattened abroad i reckon

KPat was interviewed wearing his Perth Scorcher colours yesterday but I didn't listen to the interview. I think he's not quite available for the season start, should be right just after Xmas. GAS, I actually agree with you that Pucovski can move down and KPat at 3. I actually initially forgot Kurtis and he was my last player picked.

TBH Magrat, I feel like the team I've picked wouldn't have that huge a difference in performances home vs away. For sure it would win more at home, but I can't see them getting smashed against teams 6-12 away from home.

Hard to argue with most of it, if JRichardson, Patto and O'Keefe are fit, that's a pretty decent test attack. Other contenders for Neser's spot would be: Copeland, Bird, Boland, Tremain, Abbott. Actually a bit of fast bowling depth around.

The batting's a bit lighter on, contenders might be Maddinson, Handscomb, maybe Doolan. Shame Renshaw isn't knocking harder.

Just on that topic, is Hazelwood's out for a few games, who replaces him in the XI for Boxing Day and beyond? Neser has been around the squad for ages, but I would've thought Richardson or Pattinson would be selected first?

Red Hill, Maddinson was definitely in the mix. I didn't really consider Handscomb or Doolan, they'd come into calculations for Aus B though.

You just named 5 bowlers, probably predictable but Siddle would definitely come into my calculations, in fact he'd be the first bowler I pick in the Aus B side. Alright, due to popular demand (ha) Aus B

01 Daniel Hughes
02 Cameron Bancroft
03 Nic Maddinson
04 Peter Handscomb
05 Mitch Marsh
06 Peter Nevill
07 Cameron Green
08 Sean Abbott
09 Peter Siddle
10 Mitch Swepson
11 Jackson Bird

I don't really love this 5 man right arm medium attack (if Green could bowl). Realistically, I would probably include a difference maker like Meredith or Conway but neither really deserve it yet and neither can bat well which was factor in selecting the all rounder first identified by Mark Waugh, Abbott.

BTW - It would send the wrong message if Richarson came in ahead of Neser. But Patto is a big chance.

You'd hope it was Pattinson or Richardson. I don't see Neser penetrating if it doesn't swing, and after Melbourne's shield debacle I'm expecting another flattie.

Be an interesting selection because I reckon Melb's gonna be a road (there's some very hot days forecast between now and Boxing Day).

With Hazelwood out they should consider someone who can bowl long containing spells.

Last thing we want is Starc, Cummins and Patto/Richardson grinding themselves into injury. Might play into Neser's favour.

Is MMarsh fit yet? If it's gonna be flat they might consider binning one of Wade and Head.

Not that I want him back. I really don't.

Apparently he's going to play the BBL game on Wednesday, so yes. Plenty of time between that and the Melbourne Test too, so I can absolutely see this happening.

Clearly Pattinson should be next in. While I do rate JRichardson higher than Neser in general terms, he isn't even in the squad at this stage. But even if he was I would still lean towards Patto anyway

Whatever it takes!!!
If Pattinson plays for Haze in the next game, Aussies will have a lower order that will suck the life out of most opposition attacks.

Pattinson at 8, Cummins at 9 and Starc at 10. Wow.

Honestly part of me is tempted to pick both Neser and Pattinson given I expect both the M and SCG to be massive roads.

I mean Siddle was devastating the last time he bowled at the MCG. It was a classic chicken/egg situation, were his grenades damaging the pitch or was the pitch making him bowl grenades.

He has a big heart if we want a Wagner type. He has a Test hattrick if we want to pick a bowler with hattrick taking skills. He has elite honesty. Twin 50s.

I guess the bigger question is who shares the new ball with Siddle?

What a gloriously balanced XI

Seriously though, Patto all day everyday

The love the selectors have for Siddle continues to baffle. Lancer quotedtoday as praising what a good job he did during the Ashes; didn't realise JL went home a Test early.

Yeah it's crazy when you consider they have Pattinson and Richardson in reserve. Neser, Tremain, Bird and a few others arguably deserve the chance over him too.
