Glen Phillips or NZ Steve Smith showing he's not to be forgotten with a mighty hundred. Some of Phillips' shots are weird looking but the lad can certainly bat. I have followed him since his younger days i.e. the under 19 days. You can see the trend, Phillps, Ravindra, Nathan Smith, Josh Clarkson and Ben Sears were then the best performers out of the 19s bunch from 2016 batch and they still can be classified as the ones that are going to make a future impact and likely to go on to play good number of years of cricket for NZ.

About 3 years back Phillips and Ravindra (debut under 19 game for Ravindra?)opening for U19s helped chase 255 vs Pakistan in Dubai.

Guptill gets his 100 too, looked class as usual.

BTW the match reports on NZC says Josh Clarkson was hit in the head by Ben Sears and retired hurt but then the scorecard shows he was claimed by Ravindra? What's going on here?

Been quietly following the NZ domestic scene this season. Ben sears, Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Glen Phillips and Rachin Ravindra have really stuck out to me. And I see that Lockie has basically gotten to that point where domestic cricket might not be too much of a challenge to him, guy is running riot all over it lol. Bags and bags of wickets. Was expensive in the last match but hey, Rachin played him well.

Good to see Nathan Smith bowling well again, now we've switched to ListA.

Peach to get Ravindra, like his U19 wickets.

Nathan Smith the hero of Otago side today. As much as I wanted Firebirds to win, didn't grudge Nathan Smith bowled the last over and took the all important wicket of Jeetan Patel. Looks like a good game.

Auckland aces... way too good for everyone. Munro I thought was struggling but he's smashed it this week. He's back with a bang or not we will have to see.

Low scores for good players such as Guptill, Worker, Ravindra, Murdoch etc

Cleaver tons up ... yet another very good wicket keeper batsman. Broom finally gets a hundy, it was overdue.

Domestic U19s tournament starts today, with the U19 world cup in January to follow.

These players played for NZ U19s v Bangladesh in September/October:

https://archive.nzc.nz/Events/Bangl...2019-20/uo_New_Zealand_Under-19s_Bowling.html

And these players played or NZ U19s v Australia in July:

https://archive.nzc.nz/Events/New_Z...ia_2019/uo_New_Zealand_Under-19s_Bowling.html

I count that as 22 players having played over those 2 series of 8 games.

Be interesting if anyone outside that 22 can force their way in. Possible, as I see the top run-scorer from last years U17s didn't feature.

It's notable that NZC have actually spent the money giving them some prep, unlike 2016 and 2018.

U19 series and NZA series, but only 8 rounds of Plunket Shield. They giveth and they taketh away.

They've just had 3 rounds (for all 6 teams) of Ford Trophy and Lincoln/Hagley last week, then this week it's been Gilette Cup. Now a fortnight of U19s.
Those groundsmen down there earn their wage.

Looking forward to this year's under 19s. Hopefully will show some more serious talent coming through. Last U19 world cup we heavily relied on spin bowling and here's hoping there's some pace about with this bunch. There's a quad tourney scheduled with NZ, India, Aus and likely Afganistan prior the U19 world cup in South Africa. Was reading on cricinfo the Indian under 19 team is on the road and in South Africa for nearly 60 days. India spends heaps on their junior cricket, no wonder they produce so many young talents these days. Many of the lads in the Indian under 19 team have played nearly 40 domestic games.

NZ hasn't been bad, sure they don't schedule too many U19 internationals but the winter academy seems to be working quite well and we are definitely not short of quality at NZ As and domestic scene.

At the conclusion of this tourney the U19 side to South Africa is going to be named. Obviously they will have already picked at least 11 players.

BTW Gillette cup has been on this week as well...

Wickets falling in heaps for ND and Wellington. The ball maybe moving a bit. Also used pitch from the ford trophy so slightly on the slower side?

So far haven't see any outstanding fast bowlers yet. Seen some funky stance and grip. The ND lads, most of them seem to have been copying King Kane. Things they have taken from Kane:

Twirl the bat before they take stance
Backfoot drives
Stance
Grip

There's also lot of Virat back and across styled batters.

I haven't seen anyone copying Rosco yet.

O'Rourke from Auckland looks alright. The second wicket look good (bowled Lellman), the first wicket looked like he was collapsing/falling away in his action and it was a bit floaty.

The opener for ND, Pomere Kane look alike back foot drives looks a good player. Has played for NZ U19s both in Aussie and vs Bangladesh.

It's going to be tough for our boys in SA. I don't think the results matter as much but if the team can contribute the likes of Ravindra, Clarkson, Nathan Smith, Ben Sears etc the job is done.

Also heard a lot about MA Abbas, he's son of Azar Abbas Pakistani cricketer that settled in NZ few years ago. Played a season for Firebirds and then couple of season for Aces. There's lot written about this lad. He's supposed to be a very good batter as well.

His bowling action resembles Wasim Akram, that's no brainer is it? If he's a Pakistani lad and a left arm is there a better bowler to look up to?

The lad has a beautiful run up, repeatable and a very safe action. His action looks like a first class bowler's already. Doesn't seem quick but with age that should come. Wonder if he swings with that, he ideally should with that action.

As for Wellington, T Robinson is a fairly quick bowler. Still in school but plays for Onslow Club. R Jackson is also supposed to be quick and has played for NZ 19s but has been quite expensive.

Thomas Jones is a good wicket keeping batsman. Very aggressive bat, underrated but definitely one for future.

J Tashkoff has been leading the NZ 19 team and a good all rounder. Bowls tidy left arm orthodox and a decent bat.

TL Bradburn in the ND side, relation to Grant Bradburn? His son likely?

A Ashok 4 for 8 off 8 overs for Auckland. The lad does seem to turn the ball. Excited to see a leggie that turns the ball.

Good story. Don't really see the Wasim Akram comparison though - he's more your typical left arm whippy action like Boult/ Vaas/ Ashish Nehra. Akram was all shoulder.

Yep son, Might have something to work with bowling wise, kid must be 6’5 at least. Wasn’t quick by any means but was getting some decent away shape
