For some reason the ford trophy games were on didn't register again today... Just had a look the boy is good. Not that we didn't know that. Last game I thought he was batting in first gear and scoring 36 ball fifty. Ravindra just bats, doesn't even try hard and has 120+ strike rate. Imagine if he tries or learns how to smash it over the top consistently... Scary thought.

After Ravindra got out in the 37th over Firebirds were on 230 Ideally should have got 360+ but looks like they will only get to 340 at the most.

Guptill and Munro will come out guns blazing... watch out for some serious batting from Auckland today now that they have license to go after it from ball 1.

Lockie Ferguson goes for 70+ runs... From a 5 fer to going at nearly 8s. That's cricket for you.

Just had a look at Ravindra's bowling, the ball to Guppy ... Amazing. Considering on a flat pitch, against a gun player and when they were smashing it. That was a cracker, none knew what happened. It beat Guppy's bat and took a faint edge of the off stump. Dream ball.

Reminded me of the ball he bowled to a South African dude in under 19s I think.

Why doesn't Ravindra bowl much for Firebirds?

They probably want him to focus on his batting a la young Kane. A lot of similarities between the two (though Ravindra's action seems a lot less capable of producing a decent doosra).

Kane was a part timer but Ravindra could be your full time bowler as well... Ravindra barely misses the length. Had a look in the pooch no hit me balls in any of the 60 balls he bowled yesterday, maybe one ball missed the length to Munro. That is a staggering stat. Remember he was also bowling to rampaging Munro and Guppy. Then bowled 4 overs at the death. Sometimes I feel his bowling is even better than his batting.

I still think Ravindra should be considered for middle order and bowl heaps as well. Hard to get guys that can bowl full quota of overs and bat as good as well.

I think this is a false narrative/argument.

For Wellington; He's played in a team with good second spinner options already in place (Woodcock/Nofal)

Until this game Ravindra has averaged 6 and half overs per List A match and had never taken a wicket yet in his career. But 5 of his 6 career matches were for NZ A anyway, not Wellington.

His FC bowling record is also very modest. Again split between NZA and Wellington.

I'm finding the discussion interesting. But I think it's more a spotter's badge sort of discussion on Ravindra's so far un-shown bowling potential. Rather than a proper discussion on Wellington captain's/coaches use of their spin options.

He's a kid, who's responibilities will gradually increase.

Are you talking just List A cricket here?

I would have been thinking that way too, until yesterday, that was a remarkably display of List A opening batting. Risk free boundary hitting judging by the video scorecard.

I've been an avid follower of Ravindra's bowling and from what I've seen so far he's quite amazing. I get what you mean by the stats but stats are irrelevant at this stage in my opinion. When he does bowl, he seems to bowl very short spells for firebirds. He's bowled mostly full quota of overs in T20s for firebirds and from memory has taken wickets consistently.

Nofal has been very good this season no doubt but dare may I say Ravindra's bowling, pace is well suited for higher level of cricket. I'm not convinced Nofal's bowling will suit higher level of cricket, don't mind him proving otherwise of course but I think Ravindra's bowling will go a long way in future. Hope Firebirds use him fair bit and not take him off as soon as he goes for one boundary in one over.

Yeah about that, Ravindra should be at 5 in FC cricket. But he's proved his OD opening worth for sure.

Averages 18.4 bowling in T20s (three matches; full quota bowled in all of them)
