Chahar's been impressive in this format in the IPL and the WI T20s as well before this series. Think he's done enough to be in the squad for the WT20 next year.

Whatever it takes!!!
Think this will be the most likely squad

Dhawan
Rohit (vc)
Virat (c)
Shreyas
Pant (wk)
Hardik
Jadeja
Bhuvi
Sundar
Chahal
Bumrah

KL Rahul (backup opener and keeper)
Manish (back up middle order batsman)
Chahar (back up seamer)
Kuldeep (back up spinner)

Kuldeep should certainly play. It's disappointing how Kohli has not backed Kuldeep enough. He should be the premier spinner in limited overs.

Play Rahul as keeper-batsman until Pant sorts his game out. Keeping for 20 overs can't be too demanding.

Nah.. Chahal is a better T20 spinner and honestly, given how much baggage they are in the field and with the bat, we can realistically only play one of them. Even with one of them we are playing with 2 number 11s. Both means we have 3 number 11s and that is just not gonna cut it in modern day LO cricket.

So my starting XI will be:

Dhawan
Rohit
Kohli
Rahul (wk)
Shreyas
Pandey
Pandya
Bhuvi
Kuldeep
Chaha(r/l)
Bumrah

Chahar or Chahal depending on the conditions.

You don't need much of batting from tail in 20 over format. Also, Kuldeep is not exactly a #11; he has a first class hundred. Of course not comparable to Bhuvi with the bat, leave alone Jadeja/Pandya.

Never had a doubt in my mind who the better bowler between KulCha is irrespective of the format.

Pandey at 6 will be a misfit. Dinesh Karthik/Krunal Pandya/Jadeja can do the finishing role better. Or Dubey if he can prove his abilities.

Umesh has a FC hundred too. :) The stats you are showing are fine but remember how T20Is are few and far between especially when building up to the 50 over WC. The last IPL showed very well why Kuldeep is not a better T20 spinner than Chahal. I agree the big outfields in Australia will tempt anyone to play the two wristies but Sundar can bowl in the powerplay and adds a lot more both as a fielder and as a batsman. And with the 6 proper bowling options in B&B, Chahal, Sundar, Jaddu and Hardik, its not like India will miss anything. We need fast moving fielders with strong arms and Kuldeep is an absolute liability there too. So is Chahal, and that is why I will say we have room for only one of them in the XI. This line up gives you 2 attacking options with the ball (3 in certain conditions with Bhuvi) and bowlers who can bowl across all periods of the innings (except maybe Jaddu in the powerplay). And a pretty good fielding and batting side in terms of fitness and ability to run hard for 120 deliveries.

KulCha have been consistently good outside subcontinent. That world t20 is going to be held in Australia is even bigger reason to pick them ahead of other suitors.

Chrish

International Debutant
So Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill, both will have wait a bit for their turn? Good problem to have from Indian perspective

Noumenon

U19 Vice-Captain
Prithvi Shaw back today after the lengthy ban. Scored a flashy 58 against Assam with plenty of aerial shots. For good measure, he also made an animated gesture of his bat doing the talk. Will admit, had not accounted for him being a show pony.

the big bambino

International Captain
India is about the only side in the world with the batting strength to make it work. Jadeja, Pant, Ashwin at 6 7 8 is doable and stronger overall than England's 6 7 8 that was part of their successful 2005 Ashes win.

We need Pandya back. I don’t think two spinners overseas is worth the hit in batting.
