Yes, seriously. Bhuvi is pretty good in tests too. Pandya is the one who should be an ODI specialist. But they will keep drafting him in tests as a bits and pieces all-rounder.
He’s averaging 30 with bat and ball. Hardly bits and pieces?

Just 11 games.
Just 17 wickets.
Bowls just ~8 overs per innings, ~14 overs per match.

A player who is not one of 6 best batsmen OR 4/5 best bowlers is bits and pieces.

Meh, disagree. He provides great balance when four bowlers seems like it may not he enough.

Whatever it takes!!!
I think its a simple calculation for me. If you wanna play 4 seamers and a spinner, it has to be either Ashwin + Pandya or Jadeja + Bhuvi. And if you are playing Bumrah, Shami and Ishant/Bhuvi, I honestly do not see what more Pandya can add there, especially if the opposition does not roll out a green top coz they now know we actually have a fast bowling attack. On a normal balanced wicket where the game might go into 4th and 5th days, you will need even your spinner to be a match-winner and Ashwin is not doing that bowling 35 overs out of 100 and holding an end tight in the first dig. Plus, I honestly think Jaddu is a better batsman than Pandya and when the question is to pick the #6 or #7, it's the batting ability that should be the primary concern. I honestly think this side is the best we can put out overseas, even in SENA as long as the wicket is not a ridiculous greentop like Perth or Jo'burg or some of the England wickets we saw in 2018:

Rohit/other opener
Mayank
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Pant (wk)
Jadeja
Ashwin
Bhuvi/Ishant
Shami
Bumrah/Umesh

Great problem to have anyways. All these options are in reality only marginally better/worse than each other. We’ve come a long way :)

Pandya got us our only Victory in England and he really got us a fair shot against SA in the first test, I wouldn't dismiss him so quickly. He's inconsistent but has great shock value.

And shock value is a luxury we really cannot afford. Plus his fitness has been questionable for a while now. IMO, they will save him and maybe Bhuvi for the T20 WC. If Pandya is not in the squad, I think we can pretty much take it as a given that Jaddu will bat 6/7 and Ashwin will play as the main spinner unless its an absolute green top.

Yeah I am struggling to get him a place in the team but I do think he should be in the squad at least. If Jadeja / Ashwin **** up then he is a proper replacement from them.

Also in case of a green top.

Yeah... I do think Pandya and a few others are good back up but on a good wicket, its a no brainer that we pick Jaddu above him as the allrounder right now.

I never believed in "balance" in tests. In limited overs, 5 different bowlers need to bowl their quota so there is a place for someone like Pandya.

I don't think Kohli will ever field Ashwin and Jadeja together overseas, especially now that we have a good pace attack. Last few series, they have been pretty consistent in the team selection. 6 batsmen and 4 bowlers overseas with Vihari/any other chipping in while 2 spinners+3 pacers combination is played in India. It has worked so far.

There is a reason why Jadeja is batting at 6 though. He will want to keep this going. I think the only way they don't play Ashwin is if they play 4 proper seamers, which might well happen given he has a Jadeja and Umesh boner, but as long as the wicket is not a lawn, I feel we will play Jadeja as the allrounder and Ashwin as the specialist spinner.

Devdutt Padikkal is another cracking talent coming out of Karnataka. Great pickup by RCB, deserves some burn in the IPL imo.

3 games after Shaw's redemptive return, the boy already made a strong case for his immediate induction to the T20 side at least. Vastly superior option when contrasted with the current Dhawan.
