Better bat than Nev. Moises is in good form atm. He (Moises) may bat three if they don’t run with Larkin. Depends what TPC wants to do I suppose

Has Nev really dropped off that much? I remember just a few years ago he was a 45 averaging shield batsman

I think he's tapered away a fair bit ever since his test career ended tbh. Doesn't seem to put scores together as well as he used to. Bert's a properly good player though. I just hope he somehow gets a decent run at it through the summer, which he hopefully will once Warner and Smith (and maybe even KPat) and/ or Hughes head off for test duty.

Reckon Nev’s batting and keeping have both declined

Might be partly mental as he is a long way from being selected again

I honestly don't know who the best specialist gloveman in the country is. Paine spilled a few in the Ashes, Nev has seemed to fall away a touch too, Carey still a bit patchy against spin, and nobody else really is in the conversation.

That is why I hate it when people like Handscomb take the gloves, he will never be a viable keeping option internationally, how is someone like Harper supposed to develop if he is carrying drinks all the time

It's still Nev IMO. His batting has fallen way (although most people who knew a bit about him from juniors/grade were actually more surprised he scored so many runs in FC cricket initially than the drop off), and I think his general lower confidence as a player has made him spill a couple too, but I'd still take him behind the sticks ahead of anyone else if we were to ignore batting.

Fair enough on balance, still has plenty to offer for NSW

Victoria squad:
Peter Handscomb (C)
Scott Boland
Aaron Finch
Sam Harper
Marcus Harris
Jon Holland
Nic Maddinson
Glenn Maxwell
James Pattinson
Will Pucovski
Matthew Short
Chris Tremain

From that lineup Short the one to sit out, I do rate him, but the other batsmen in the squad are probably of more interest

Queensland squad:

Usman Khawaja (c)
Joe Burns
Cameron Gannon
Sam Heazlett
Charlie Hemphrey
Marnus Labuschagne
Michael Neser
James Peirson
Matthew Renshaw
Billy Stanlake
Mark Steketee
Mitch Swepson

Gannon and his frankly diabolical bowling action can **** right off

Now just waiting for those slowpokes out west to name their squad

Anyway I think Queensland's first XI will have an attack of Stanlake, Neser, Steketee and Swepson.

Australia T20 squad: Aaron Finch (c), Ashton Agar, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell, Ben McDermott, Kane Richardson, Steve Smith, Billy Stanlake, Mitchell Starc, Ashton Turner, Andrew Tye, David Warner, Adam Zampa

Will Turner even be fit?

Short seems a harsh axing. Don't really like them picking Smith. Agree Green should be there.

Not a bad squad for the most part though.

I don't really like how all the fast bowlers in test contention seem to be on completely different programs, there is probably some sound medical advice behind it but it just has an air of haphazardness about it. Would have probably rather seen Cummins playing more red ball cricket and someone like Kelly or Meredith getting a go.

Agree that D'aaaaaaaarcy probably should have been in the squad, Green not a bad option either

Hmmm not sure that's actually the case that the programs are haphazard. Cummins and Hazlewood are getting the longest rests because they played in the most Ashes tests, Starc didn't play most of the Ashes so he's back Rd 1 of the Shield after missing part of the Marsh Cup, and Pattinson and Siddle haven't had the same kind of workload so they're back quickly.

Agree I'd like to see Cummins play more red ball cricket, but I think given the T20 World Cup is around the corner I reckon they're taking this at least somewhat semi-seriously rather than rotating names around.

Yeah the T20 world cup matters, but this largely irrelevant bilateral T20 stuff seems a good opportunity to have a look at other options.

And Patto returning earlier seems odd considering he played more than Starc and is even more injury prone. Either he should have been held back or (preferably) Starc was cleared to play earlier imo

When is the international T20 stuff happening this summer? Aren't the tests first?

I'd say the opposite tbh. You need to get your squad together and firing leading up to the World T20 (I refuse to call it a world cup), not messing around giving randos games.

With batting absolutely I agree, we need stability. But I would hate to see Cummins for example come in the next Test series undercooked because he has just been bowling four overs as his match preparation
