It absolutely shouldn't though. The on field leadership and direction required in AFL/Aussie Rules football more broadly is relatively insignificant compared to cricket. They've picked up on this mantra, I suspect, because of how he is around the various groups he plays in - which tbf only those in those groups know, and also the fact he was teh GWs Giants' inaugural club captain. I suspect that's had a bit to do with the whole thing too.
Yeah but look how ********* SA has been since forever. What makes you think their selectors know their arses from their elbows? My whole point all along has is if he was the good leader that Hohns and others in CA think he is then why hasn't he been given opportunities to lead South Australia?
Don't like repeating myself here, but it's a question that must be asked.
I would say exactly the same about anyone who is being talked about as a possible international captaincy candidate without having led their state. It should be an absolute prerequisite for anyone considered.GAS v Carey Captaincy is fast becoming one of the biggest rivalries on CW
Trust me, I am well aware of how badly South Australian cricket can be run at both an on and off field level. It isn't news to me.Yeah but look how ********* SA has been since forever. What makes you think their selectors know their arses from their elbows?
Head's place in the team is far from secure. His best days as a Test cricketer are already behind him.The thing is that Head should be being talked up by SA as the next Australian captain.
There should be at least 5 candidates for Australian captain ahead of Carey - Paine, Head, Khawaja, Marsh and Smith. The latter two I don't like for different reasons (Marsh because his place shouldn't be anywhere nailed down and Smith because I just want him piling on the runs and not distracted with the captaincy). Head and Khawaja are both fixtures in the Australian side (or at least both should be) and both have captaincy experience.
Having said that, the selectors dropped both (incorrectly IMO) in the last Ashes. But Carey isn't even in the bloody squad. He should not be being talked up as a future captain. Head should rightly be fuming at Hohns' comments.
Lol. He's got a rubbish technique but he's still quite talented. He'll be a fixture for a long time.Head's place in the team is far from secure. His best days as a Test cricketer are already behind him.
Not a good couple of days for D'arcy. From the 13 chosen,I just don't understand where the whole idea of Carey for captaincy even came from. If he was to do the job for South Australia like Hohns is obviously suggesting and do well at it he could be an option a few years down the track, but the idea is a complete non starter at this stage in his career. You have to do the job for your state before your country and at this stage I would much rather see Carey continue to focus on his keeping and his batting
Anyway, WA squad:
1. Mitchell Marsh ©
2. Ashton Agar
3. Cameron Bancroft
4. Hilton Cartwright
5. Cameron Green
6. Josh Inglis
7. Matt Kelly
8. Shaun Marsh
9. Joel Paris
10. Josh Philippe
11. Jhye Richardson
12. Marcus Stoinis
13. Sam Whiteman
I think the bottom line there was that he just plain wasn't good enough as a player, he might've been a great captain for all we know.Yeah I mean he did a pretty **** job as captain of GWS as far as personal and team results (regardless of circumstance) go. Wasn't he de-listed after 1 season?
Yep but why cant he make the T20I +eam boi.Darcehole just resting up for the Big Bash where he'll score another 800+ runs
