wouldn't be biffing warner. he's the goods, and doesn't have to face broad for a long time.

tim paine has been a great servant but i'd be looking to replace asap. drops clangers, can't bat to standard. saw someone compare him to boucher earlier which is hilarious. boucher could catch and score centuries.

i normally hate asking kids to bat #3 because someone experienced should always be in the second most crucial batting spot but labuchagne has impressed.

at home australias 'nearly good' batsmen will dominate as per, or at the very least score more than enough for the bowling to cruise it home.

burns technique is a bit wobbly but it hasn't really stopped him scoring test runs and he's got bottle which is just as important.

warner
burns
labuchange
smith
head
patterson
paine (for now)
cummins
pattinson
hazlewood
lyon

Nah Paine is fine. His keeping is genuinely the best available in the country and his batting is fine too. Needs to sit down and have a heart to heart with Ponting on what you say after winning the toss, and definitely needs to practice his DRS skills but he's fine.

Keeping in England is the hardest place to keep since the ball tends to swing after it's passed the batsman. So I think his keeping was pretty decent this series, all things considered. Not every keeper is going to be Healy standard.

Flems team probably picked before wades ton so he has to start now. Two away tons in England buys a lot of credits
As does the other 8 innings averaging only 13 lose a lot of those credits. Wade really needed to go big here as he now has 4 test hundreds and this 117 is his highest score. Great batting for a WK batsman, but not good enough as a specialist bat moving forward.

The only certainties for my first test team next summer are Smith, Wade, Cummins, Lyon and Haze while the selectors will probably add Paine to that list

Every other spot is dependent upon shield form

The argument that Warner should be picked because the wickets will be flat, Pakistan, etc is just ridiculous and simply rewards a ftb whose lack of runs was a primary reason why we only drew the series

im on the fence with wade after seeing his effort last night, but not with warner. to replace a guy you actually have to have someone better and you don't. if australia had another 40+ opener in the country they'd pick him and he would replace harris.

There's no one else, even before you consider the two tons in England - an achievement beyond every Australian batsman bar Smith. Other incumbents go before him.

Wade probably saved his Test career there. Still not the biggest fan, he can be too hit and miss for my liking, but you kinda have to keep him in the frame after an innings like that. Really hope the selectors resist the temptation to get too clever by half, wholesale change for the sake of it is not the way forward

Being too clever here arguably cost us the series.

Our bowling should be Cummins, Haze, Starc and Lyon with Pattinson and Richardson next.

Middle order Labuschagne, Smith, Head, Wade with Patterson, Marsh, Carey and Puckovski options. I'd be very hesitant to pick Puckovski.

Openers are all candidates atm. No one deserves selection. Watching Khawaja, Warner, Burns, Renshaw, Bancroft and Harris. EDIT: Maddinson deserves a look after his form last season.

Keeper - Paine.

It's not crazy to suggest that the team would be stronger giving Wade the gloves and making Paine redundant. Wade's not any worse a keeper and vastly better batsman. Only issue with that is the captaincy.

lol **** off Wade's easily our 3rd best bat this series, and England is likely the place in the world that least suits him. I wouldn't be picking anyone other than Smith and Labu ahead of him at this stage

nothing clever about picking Peter Siddle when you have Starc and Pattinson available

Burns and Khawaja. Both averaging 40+, both openers, or at least can play as them.

Picking Siddle for the final test could have been slightly justified if they hadn't already picked Marsh. Picking both in the same side was lunacy, especially when you have two guns sitting on the bench.

Everyone was singing Marsh's praises after the first innings but his batting was horrid. Again. We cannot carry him at 6. maybe 7 would be ok if we had a solid top 6, but we don't.

Cummins very unlucky not to have picked up a bag in the first innings as well. He basically got Root out 4 times alone. On another day he's the one cleaning up the dodgy middle order instead of Marsh.

Siddle was a waste of space. He wasn't economical, he didn't take wickets and he didn't contribute with the bat. Paine's brain explosion notwithstanding, we likely would have lost the match anyway with three batsmen in the top 6 and a dead weight bowler at first change.

We can do a lot worse than picking those 2 at home against Pak and NZ. Wouldn't surprise me if they both averaged 50+ for the summer. Problem is they aren't long term solutions and I'm highly sceptical that they'd be much use overseas.

It wasn't really. He looked a lot better than most. I'd back him more than Travis Head tbh.
