If they were going to play Hamza, it should have been for a bowler. Rabada really isn't a 9I liked what little I saw of Hamza against Pakistan. They really should have played him against Sri Lanka in hindsight. Instead, Bavuma got yet another go and was a complete failure.
Good to hear... time on the park at least. There is a 3-day game v a Board Presidents XI
If they wanted to drop on form it needed to be for Amla, Bavuma had scored alright during the Pakistan series. Amla was not gonna be dropped at that time.I liked what little I saw of Hamza against Pakistan. They really should have played him against Sri Lanka in hindsight. Instead, Bavuma got yet another go and was a complete failure.
Rabada is an excellent 9. Definite batting potential. Whether Hamza should have played instead of Mulder as a batting allrounder is debatable now. Think there was concerns around Steyns fitness and we lost Philander. If they were going to play Hamza, it should have been for a bowler. Rabada really isn't a 9
Rabada's batting is a myth. Never registered a 50 in any top level game.Rabada is an excellent 9. Definite batting potential. Whether Hamza should have played instead of Mulder as a batting allrounder is debatable now. Think there was concerns around Steyns fitness and we lost Philander.
Nobody is pretending he is an allrounder. But his ability is clearly there. Number of excellent lower contributions staying with the batsmen. And a number of long stints at the crease as a nightwatchmen. Point is he is not a bunny, and thus perfectly fine as a 9.Rabada's batting is a myth. Never registered a 50 in any top level game.
Love his bowling though
Bavuma is guaranteed a spot regardless of how many times he has failed. He doesn't have a higher ceiling to be persisted with.I liked what little I saw of Hamza against Pakistan. They really should have played him against Sri Lanka in hindsight. Instead, Bavuma got yet another go and was a complete failure.
Looking at this suggests the England tour is going to be similar to the current Ashes (minus Smith) with 2 crap batting line ups and 2 good Bowling line ups up against each other. The test team has a few variables but 2 main one's.
1. Elgar
2. Markram
3. Hamza
4. de Bruyn
5. Du Plessis
6. Bavuma
7. de Kock
8. Philander
9. Maharaj
10. Rabada
11. Ngidi
or
Piedt for Philander/Ngidi
Nortje only plays if those fast bowlers are struggling or injured.
Like wise for Muthusamy and Klaasen for injury in the top 6/7 too.
Good to hear. Chances of the next SA bowling coach?Allan Donald will take up a position as a consulting coach for all Free State Cricket teams, including the Knights franchise, for the duration of October, the Free State Cricket Union announced on Wednesday.
Donald, 52, will be leaving his position as Kent's assistant coach at the end of this season, upon completion of a two-year stint with the county
Been there done that I reckon but really happy to see a legend willing to give back even at this stage of his coaching career where he seems to always have been in demand. I don't think there is enough wisdom like this in our current cricketing system from school level up like it used to be.espncricinfo_allan-donald-roped-consultant-free-state-cricket

I'd argue he's more of a 9 than Philander is a 7, which they've been known to try.If they were going to play Hamza, it should have been for a bowler. Rabada really isn't a 9
I hope this thought process doesn't happen.Almost certain Bavuma won't bat at 6. He should, but he won't.
Realistically it should be
3. Hamza
4. Du Plessis/de Bruyn
5. Du Plessis/ de Bruyn
6. Bavuma.
de Bruyn should definitely be looking at 4 long-term but for now they may look to put Du Plessis at four just because he's experienced and they might not like the idea of an inexperienced 3/4. I'd probably agree tbh.
Until the right people start scoring the runs and getting the hundreds. I would say only really Rudi Second has done it and could play as a batsman right away for him. Maybe Keegan Petersen (but I have the same concerns about tempo of an innings as I do with Bavuma) and Bedingham (but needs to back up his first season). The other is if they go with the all-rounder Mulder. How long a rope does Bavuma still have? I'm not convinced he's our answer at 6. Mulder/De Kock should be batting there IMO.
I personally don't see a place long term for Klaasen, I look at Verreynne as a LO player coming in at 6 for SA.Personally I think Verreynne and Klaasen have to play as keepers which is what may effect them in the long-term. For differing reasons. Can Verreynne start scoring 100s to influence games as a pure batsmen. Regular 50s are nice for a wk. Klaasen is a very positive number 7 batsmen like de Kock and it is why I think they went to him first initially as back-up test wk but can he bat 5/6 for a test team with the extra pressure of scoring 100s and not being a wk I am not so sure.
The responsibility of scoring 100s for your team is a totally different pressure so I am hoping QdK sticks with the gloves.I personally don't see a place long term for Klaasen, I look at Verreynne as a LO player coming in at 6 for SA.
Ultimately some of the decisions around QDK may give these players opportunity. I hope they don't change his position but seems to have shown a want to play at 4, and now looking at captaincy? Think he needs to stay at 6/7 for SA and wicket keep.
