4th Test at Old Trafford, Manchester

That Cummins spell yesterday and the Smith innings today were the highlights of excellent test match performances...microcosmically speaking.

This is why test cricket is the best cricket.

This is the most likable England side in a long time, but they're so flawed. Maybe that's part of what makes them fun.
They are a lot of fun to face. There captain does give in easily as he did earlier today. Just handed Aus free runs.

Yea so? Lets see him do it consistently and then he shall be considered not bad. Consistency over a period of time in different conditions will prove that. He has been good this series but thats not saying much considering the English batting line up is gloomier than an english summer.
So it’s completely ludicrous to discard him as ‘****’. Not saying he’s amazing or anything but you can’t describe yourself as cricket fan is you’re gonna go around labelling a guy who’s performed admirably as ‘****’. And, his performances in the context of the overall fragility of the English (and Australian) batting only serves to enhance his reputation, you complete muppet.

You guys have had a good decade. The ECB. Has done well with player development overall so there's hope. Which new batsmen would you consider?
Ollie Pope and Dominic Sibley deserve call ups. Foakes should be the wicket keeper ahead of Bairstow, he’s a better keeper and possibly even a better batsmen. Root needs to drop the captaincy and find some form. Personally would give Buttler the captaincy or even Rory Burns but who knows. The selectors have been ****ing **** for a while now so who knows what’s going to happen.

We’re the gift that keeps on giving. Reaching Pakistan levels of inconsistency. The disparity in performance, attitude and intensity between pre and post Tea today was ludicrous.

No idea what you're on about. The point I challenged you on was our world cup win. Now piss off

Ok. Get well soon. I’ll pray for a quick recovery of your memory. It’s been a long English summer. I don’t recall England hitting the winning runs or taking the winning wicket within the 50 overs or super over. The game is officially a tie and England were awarded the World Cup on a technicality. Fast forward 2 months later and sans Ben Stokes, England have failed to do much in the Ashes. Even if I were to concede. England have 1 solitary WC, Aus have 5. Cheers mate!

It's all down to Bayliss and Root. Thank **** Bayliss ****s off after the next test (should have been sacked years ago) and hopefully losing to the Aussies ends Roots time as skipper.

Desperate name calling only shows how weak your argument is. Rory Burns is a below average cricketer, live with it. Even his 100 wasn’t changeless, he was lucky. You could say he had a good series, but to claim Burns is good is laughable. Having said that, he has been a bright spot for you guys. Stop being so bitter :)

Good post. Thank you for a good assessment and answer. Would you manage Archer better, like not play him in ODIs etc.

Tbf if forced with the choice I’d have taken the WC over the ashes, and I think a lot of that is down to Bayliss. I don’t know why going forward we can’t focus equally as much on both formats, without that being to the detriment of either. Should start with seperate management teams and maybe even selectors for each format. This summer has shown clearly as if it were needed how different the formats are.

The World Cup means nothing without the Ashes imo. Agree with having separate management teams though.

Do you have faith in Ashley Giles to do that? Also, would you have the ECB focus more on developing spinners considering the next WC is in India, or is the focus on Australia ?

Hey look at the bright side, England now have the World Test Maze, T20 WC and ODI WC. Add to those, wins in India, Aus, SA, SL...and its been a good decade for England :)

Shame about your memory. The run out on NZ'S last ball was the winning wicket. Cheers

But the scores were tied even after that so not it wasnt the winning wicket. You seem to love alt facts. Anyways futile now since your team is on the verge of losing the Ashes. If youre this defensive now, wonder how bad itll be tomorrow. Hope you have a good support system around you. Ashes disappointments are difficult to take. Cheers!
