3rd Test at Headingley, Leeds

Compton

International Debutant
Can only assume Root’s lack of action is an attempt to press the umpires to go off for bad light.

If he could see what was happening he’d obviously change things.

Arachnodouche

International Captain
Poor captaincy (nothing new?) from Root? Bowls his opening bowlers, in tandem, too long, leaving him with no options once the backup bowlers don’t perform. Although thought he might have at least given Leach a couple to try and restore some control - it’s farcical at the moment. What are England even trying to do? Take wickets? Dry up runs? Take wickets by drying up runs? Buy a wicket?
He does not cut a very reassuring figure these days, does Root.

This reminds me a bit of 1989 at the same venue. First test of the series and the general consensus was Australia would roll over if the ball moved at all. It didn't happen then, and it's not happening today. To many overblown egos just not producing the goods. In other times this performance would be a sacking offence for the guy in charge.

Par for the course for England at Headingley for many many years.

Surely you can't blame Root for his bowlers being incapable of bowling one side of the wicket

What's with batsmen with batsmen who have middling FC records but can bowl a bit of spin and England

King Pietersen

International Captain
Jofra way down on pace. Guess this is what happens when the Captain can't resist continually getting his shiny new toy out of the toybox.

Would have thought the four slips and gully would be a gigantic hint
Give them a third man though.

His bowling changes are about as formulaic as they come. Bowl Leach for a couple FFS - he can’t do much worse!

Collectively insipid bowling performance, this. Can't blame any one bowler or just root. Woeful stuff in decent conditions.
