3rd Test at Headingley, Leeds

I think this is true. There's been way too much talking up of their chances because of Smith's absence. It smacked of hubris at the time and it's sure looking that way now.
This here is where you really, really, really miss Anderson. Quite aside from his skill in these conditions, he at least would be able to put six balls in roughly the same spot on demand.

Labuschagne has immediately looked Australia's best player since he's come into the side. Very impressive and I was kinda surprised he wasn't already picked based on his county form.

In fairness that really was the first time he's ever put up a consistent run of scores together at FC level.

Incredible that Stokes got another over there.

Warner suddenly looking imperious. What a change.

This reminds me a bit of 1989 at the same venue. First test of the series and the general consensus was Australia would roll over if the ball moved at all. It didn't happen then, and it's not happening today. To many overblown egos just not producing the goods. In other times this performance would be a sacking offence for the guy in charge.

Well that was a pie. Warner to 49
Poor captaincy (nothing new?) from Root? Bowls his opening bowlers, in tandem, too long, leaving him with no options once the backup bowlers don’t perform. Although thought he might have at least given Leach a couple to try and restore some control - it’s farcical at the moment. What are England even trying to do? Take wickets? Dry up runs? Take wickets by drying up runs? Buy a wicket?
