Who do you have pegged for your 4 semi finalists?

People overdoing the "England have yet to play India, Australia and NZ" thing. They go in as at least 60-40 favourites against Australia and NZ and marginal favourites against India (with injuries and all, let's say 55-45). So chances of them losing all three are 0.4*0.4*0.45 = 7.2%.
Either SL or BD face a pretty decent climb to actually win 2 of their next few games too, both teams have some very exploitable weaknesses

Yeah, points on the board is always better. I won't breathe easy until India actually gets to that 11-point mark, though they've got the "easier-on-paper" games to come. It's going to be very tough for Bangladesh/SL/Pakistan or whoever is mathematically still in it to actually string a bunch of wins together, given that they haven't managed it thus far.

So just confirming, England will miss the semis after they lose all their last 3 games against Aust, India & NZ right?

Suddenly for Sri Lanka they might be thinking what/if the matches vs. Bangladesh and Pakistan werent rained out.

I mean realistically theyd probably end up just getting 2 points from those games anyway but SL vs BANG in particular looks a pretty big non event.

England have SL, India, Australia, NZ. Haven't played a single top four side yet They could lose 3 of those four and in doing so give Bangladesh a shot. They're also more likely to do so, because they're England and it's a WC.
Yep, no doubt this is your typical England One Day side putting in their typical WC performances.
They’ll gas up. It’s guaranteed. The way they play is anathema to what’s needed to win WC ko matches

tbh they probably would have won one of those and be in the same situation.

Moeen Ali will deservedly get the bulk of criticism (deservedly) for how England handled this chase but imo Jos Buttler was just as bad. In the space of 7 deliveries facing Malinga:

* he did a loose waft against a delivery clearly going for a leg-side side (after Root had been caught down the leg-side earlier that over)
*almost edged to the keeper attempting to slower bouncer well outside off,
*almost chipped to a short mid-on obviously placed there to get him out to that type of shot
*LBW playing right across a full straight delivery from a bowler famed for that exact type of delivery.

Just a terrible batting mindset considering the match situation and that Malinga was obviously their most dangerous bowler. With efforts like that and Moeen you have to wonder whether some English bats over the past few years have developed the mindset of "that's the way I play" of avoiding responsibility and adjusting when the situation needs it.

Thanks. Didn't realise Dhawan was that bad and you never want your front line bowlers to have niggles when it counts.

Bingo, this rationale works on flat decks when you're scoring 350+, but doesn't cut it as an approach on tougher wickets.

One of a number of reasons I predicted England to potentially become unstuck in an important knock-out game.

Are the finals pitches likely to be better for batting. If so, England's loss means nothing.
It could mean something if they do happen to drop their last 3 games against Aust, India and NZ, and may even if they drop 2 out of 3 of those remaining games.
