Who do you have pegged for your 4 semi finalists?

NZ should win. India or Australia winning again would be lame. England must not be allowed to win since a win for England means a win for 'bowlers are secondary, just bash it' philosophy.
If that was actually their philosophy England would've poached Hetmeyer, not Archer

England are fortunate Archer came around when he did but I mean.. Woakes opens the bowling alongside him.

I'm rooting for these (now that South Africa is no longer in the picture), in order of preference:
1. New Zealand
2. England
3. Bangladesh (no hope, but still)

why would you cheer for us? we'll do our semi final thing and one of the inferior nations will win, maybe even that one that's allergic to odi cricket.

NZ deserves to win in 92. And then in 15. A win for them is long overdue. Plus, I hope it'll revive the game's popularity over there.

How did NZ deserve to win in 2015? They beat Australia in Australia's only loss (and frankly the match of the tournament) but lost the one that truly counted.

I too want NZ to win should Australia not win but not because they deserve it, but because they're a likeable bunch.

I do not want India to win because I don't much like Kohli, despite his obvious love of the game, and I hate the BCCI meddling in world cricket.

I don't want England to win because I don't like the way they play ODI cricket and they're England. But I'd still take England over India, if only for the publicity it'd generate over there.

They've been punching above their weight for a long time. I just want some place that could use a victory to win. Not England though. Their brand of cricket sucks.

It would be great for the hype for our 3 test tour of Australia if we went there as World Champs, but can't see it sadly
I can. Sure it'd be an upset, but if we can avoid a semi-final against India, I'd give us close to 40:60 odds of making the final, and from there it's just one game and pressure can do funny things.

Yep - weirder things have happened in this tournament than NZ beating India in a one off game (for instance).

Once there's 4 teams in the play offs, it really could be anyone winning it. Of course there will be favourites, but I'm pretty sure at the moment New Zealand only need to put together 2 good games to win it (I think they're in the semi finals - screw mathematical possiblity).

It would be great for Australia to win because of the comeback story. They were written off and a shambles only a few months ago. A real redemption story.
It would be great for India to win because it validates their long overdue fast bowling focus and their improvement in the field. Plus, I like Kholi. Also more people are made happy so it increases the world's smiles the most.
It would be great for New Zealand to win because they fly the Australian flag. It would signal that the little countries can be the real deal.
It would be great for England to win because.... No. No it wouldn't. If they won, a pile of thugs would be given medals by the Queen while a pile of rubbish would be rolled out about how this will improve the game in the country while they continue to do things to ruin the game like the 100 and making it too expensive for the average Joe.

I never had a definitive list pre-WC of who the semi-finalists would be but I never considered the possibility that England wouldn't be one of the sides to make the knockout stages.

If they aren't a part of the semis, the only WC equivalent I can think of would be Australia in 1992. Like England, between World Cups they had been the best ODI side going around with a patented style of play that worked in all conditions. At home, how could they not be the clear favourite?

But the tournament itself showed Australia's tactics to be outdated as other sides were more innovative and the unthinkable happened. And I can't see England making it now.

I am still most scared of India and England which means I want Australia to finish 2nd or 3rd and to play NZ in the semi-final at Edgbaston.

But more than anything I want Bangladesh to pip England for 4th and to kick them out of yet another World Cup.

Are the semi finals starting to line up as NZ vs Aus and IND vs Pak?

Massive pressure on England now

Pak - 5 pts - Still to play NZ, BAN, AFG - Who knows? They could win 3 or none. I reckon they'll win 2 of those. 9 pts.
Eng - 8 pts - Still to play IND, NZ - I think they'll still win 1 of these. 10 pts
Ban - 7 pts - Still to play IND, Pak - You'd think they won't win either. But still possibly 1 surprise up their sleeve? 9 pts
SL - 6 pts - Still to play SA, WI, IND - They could win 2 of those if they have a couple more good days. 10 pts.
WI - 3 pts - Still to play IND, SL, AFG - Need to win all 3 of these, get to 9 pts, and hope that no one gets to 10 pts. Pretty much done.

This is better than "we know who the semi finalists will be". It's probably going to be England. But at least it's fun now. Betting agencies still putting it Eng, Pak, Ban, SL, WI in that order...

But gee England have 2 tricky games and they've had a rough last week or so. Maybe they'll turn it around and win both, then go on to the World Cup.

I still like the look of Pakistan. If they can sort out their catching, they're dangerous as F.

Why would you think Bangladesh wouldn't beat Pakistan? Bangladesh are a better team than Pakistan right now IMO.

Hard to get out of the mindset that Bangladesh are minnows. I'm definitely guilty of this. It will probably take years of Bangladesh winning every 2 or 3 series against top teams before I can shed the mindset that they are minnows.

Because Pakistan. I have no doubt that Bangladesh are actually reasonably good, but I just think that they might meet Pakistan on one of those days when Pakistan are also reasonably good.

It’s not that I don’t think Bangladesh can beat Pakistan, I just have this nagging feeling that Pakistan are partying like it’s 1992.

I think Bangladesh are still going to struggle in the likes of SA Aus Eng and NZ for a while yet. But at home they are one of the best going round. Doesn’t help them in foreign conditions, but after years of endless beatings it must feel good to get some wins no matter the conditions.
