Anyway, whoever goes on to win this title, it would be an exceptional achievement (obviously more so if it's Liverpool). Both challengers have been relentless.

So would Utd fans rather lose to City and not make the top 4 than beat them and give puddle the title?
I’d never want us to lose to anyone and definitely not to City.

Sometimes I feel like I don’t care that much before the game, but if I’m watching and we score I’m celebrating even if it hands the title to Hitler.

That’s probably the majority view but there are some who get greater pleasure from rivals failure than their own success.
I remember one year Liverpool fans claiming they were going to be cheering for Blackburn against their own team to stop Utd getting the title, but when it came to it they didn’t and Liverpool won. As it transpired Utd didn’t win their game anyway, so their disappointment at winning wasn’t tested.

If we were languishing in 10th then it might be a question, but it's always going to be achieving for ourselves (even if it's the 4th place trophy) over anything else

I think I might get more pleasure from rivals failing than our own success. They’re both loads of fun at the time, but rival failures remain hilarious for years and years afterwards. I’m not sure there’s been anything in football I’ve enjoyed more than the Gerrard slip.

Still would always cheer for United first though.

It's just different, IMO. Yeah the Gerrard slip will never not be hilarious but I enjoy reliving our own successes from years gone by more. And definitely want to beat City.

After all of this having been said, if Liverpool win the league, I won't let any of you forget about it. A signature to put Halsey's to shame as well.

In the same season it is worth noting that the majority of Liverpool fans rooted for Everton over United in the cup final

The Gerrard slip is definitely an atg moment.

Especially when combined with the clip of him screaming "this does not slip" in his silly high pitched scouse voice just a week before.

Yeah, it was so special that I’m wary of drawing conclusions about how much I enjoy rivals failing based on it.

I mean ‘99 was definitely better. But I was 9 years old and absolutely consumed by football then, so it’s not a fair comparison. Gerrard slip is the highlight of the last 10 years.

I don't really take much happiness from the Gerrard slip. I mean, I do when I think of the consequences for him, but that's rare. I don't overly think of it as the moment that cost Liverpool a title, possibly because I knew theyd **** it somehow anyway. I think I enjoy him getting sent off 5 seconds into his last game against us more.

Also I enjoy Terry's slip much, much more.

How much longer do people think 20 team leagues will be a thing at the highest level?

With FIFA's pile of dogshit world club cup idea and the proposed changes to the CL group stages (4 groups of 8 giving 14 group stage games), are 20 team leagues really feasible in this day and age?

Probably, but 20-team European Super Leagues instead. National leagues to become feeders into the European pyramid

Not sure how easy it is to reduce numbers. Is there still a voting system in place for major changes? There's no way any teams other than the "big 6" would want less teams. With two places gone immediately and then 3 out of 18 relegated even the likes of Everton wouldn't feel totally safe.

Yeah 20 is clearly too many when there are 2 cup competitions and 7+ teams in Europe, but clubs won't vote themselves into relegation trouble.
