*Official* England Tour of West Indies 2019

Who gets it then? None of the other batsmen are really nailed on starters, Stokes.. nah. Moeen gets left out from time to time. Anderson/Broad? I guess.
Buttler, or Morgan, he can’t do much worse with the bat than the rest anyway.

We all know Root will be captain for a while yet, I reckon another 5 years. It would be a huge shame but I fear his average will end up around 45 and he’ll be remembered alongside players like Vaughan and Hussain.

Good for Root. Nice to know we've got someone as captain who we can respect for their decency. Also smart turning the insult back on Gabriel.

Agree with your general point but I've actually watched quite a lot of him whenever television appearances allowed and I've never seen him anywhere near 94 mph. County games don't have speed guns either. I'm sure he has been quick before but that pace was surely more than even you could have expected. I thought he could touch 90 occasionally which in the county game is lightening fast.

I can't wait for the second innings to see if this is Mark Wood 2.0 or if the heavens happened to align for him yesterday.
True there are no speed guns but you are presupposing that he has just suddenly started reaching c.94mph in February 2019, despite being a first-class cricketer since 2011 (156 wickets)! Probably the fastest spell of bowling I have personally seen, which to my eyes was somewhere around the 94 mark, was in a pink ball match in 2017 v Worcs. That was some of the most exciting bowling I have ever seen,

I'd also say this was fairly quick,

I've seen wood bowl 94 for England a few years ago. And also last summer when he made one of his comebacks for Durham in a t20

Wood is bowling capable of 94+ but the thing that makes me stay grounded with this is that, we've been down this road bee with him...he broke on the scene bowling firebolts but very quickly dropped away and last time he played for england he was bowling 85 max, whether this new run up is helping with his pace or not, i dont' know but no point getting carried away after one innings

The problem is that Joe Root is the only specialist batsman in the team, whose place is not under pressure. This is not something new: Kohli, Williamson and Smith (duhuh, before the sandpaper came out) were all appointed captains, at least partly on being a non-pressured batsman.

Stokes and Root having fun out there. Stokes timing it superbly so far, hit a few lovely shots. Reckon we'll bat for an hour, get to just over 500 then put them in.

I was about to say a nice way to finish the series would be to put up a respectable batting effort where they're all got out by excellent bowling, but Campbell just drove loosely at his first ball so I guess that is that :). Awesome catch though!
