How can you not have Dhoni in world cup final XI? And Wasim Akram?
MS was considered and I'm a massive Dhoni fan, but Gilchrist's 2007 knock was pretty OP.

And Wasim didn't do all that much in World Cup finals, did he?

May be because AUS have won 5 WC and SL only 1 . People also don't talk much about Mohinder amarnath's all round performance in semi-final and final of WC 1983 or Steve smith 3 consecutive 50+ scores in knock-out match of WC 2015.
People don't talk about Mohinder's all-round prowess enough in general!

(I'm not liable for minor oversights while parsing a list of ODI spinners by hand, ftr. If I misallocated someone and ****ed the stat, deal with it)

Come on, how do you guys not remember his cleaning up lamb and Lewis in consecutive balls?

True, but technically speaking it doesn't have anything to do with why Warne's 4-fer is less remembered than Aravinda's knock in '96.
Of course it does, if it didn't I wouldn't have brought it up. They are incidents that made the pointy end of the '99 World Cup memorable, potentially overshadowing anything Warne did in those later games.

You could pick both Gilchrist and Dhoni. But yeah, everyone you have picked deserves to be there. Only a few South Africans missing

Fair enough. I was speaking strictly finals only.

World Cup final XI

Gautam Gambhir
Adam Gilchrist+
Viv Richards
Ricky Ponting
Clive Lloyd
Aravinda de Silva
Yuvraj Singh
Imran Khan
Mitchell Starc
Shane Warne
Joel Garner

A team comprised of standout players in CWC finals only. Hopefully it doesn't look too dodge. Grant Elliott & Gary Gilmour unlucky to miss out.
Replace Starc with Jimmy Faulkner. Faulkner was MOM in his only World Cup Final. Starc wasn't.

Fair enough. I was speaking strictly finals only.
ok but I wasn't talking about strictly finals I was talking about what I was talking about

They're interchangeable but the side was a bit short of opening batsmen. And Englishmen

So this probably fits the bill better

Gautam Gambhir
Adam Gilchrist+
Viv Richards
Ricky Ponting
Clive Lloyd
Aravinda de Silva
Imran Khan
Wasim Akram
James Faulkner
Shane Warne
Joel Garner

12th MS Dhoni

Unless someone can come up with a better opening pair than Ghambir/Gilchrist it's pretty hard to squeeze MS in there.

if MS plays it has to be as one of 2 keepers with Gilchrist.

No way you can leave out a guy that's made 2 50s and a 149 in his 3 WC finals. He'd have to be first picked.

Alternatively, we have opposition for the above team. Features some players which were on the losing side.

David Boon
Mahela Jayawardene
Mohinder Amarnath
Michael Clarke
Yuvraj Singh
MS Dhoni+
Grant Elliott
Gary Gilmour
Keith Boyce
Mushtaq Ahmed
Glenn McGrath

You really are the personification of NZ's "little brother" anti-Australian syndrome
That's not an argument in how you expect an AT Australia XI to compete with my named XI, when it has the following 6 players who are better than any one Australian ODI player.

Sachin
AB
Viv
Kohli
Wasim
Garner
Murali

For starters, there's daylight between those 4 batsmen & any Australian ODI batsman, while on the bowling side most acknowledge Garner & Wasim as the 2 greatest ODI pacers, and either Murali (or Saqlain) as the best spinner.

So never mind the little brother insults, if you really think that hypothetical match-up would somehow be a close outcome, you're utterly delusional.

If however you want to make an argument for McGrath, Bevan or Symonds to be included in that side, that'd at least be reasonable.

McGrath is as good as if not better than Garner and Akram. There is no argument over that.
