Nah still need him, just in the first test he scored a crucial 70 odd in the second innings. But yes definnitely he needs a big score. Ironnic how he was the best overseas bat last time around.
Yeah that was a very good and vital knock but you need more. Even in England he had a couple of very good innings, but overall that's not enough. Especially when he's been in as poor form as he has been.

Rahane doesn't score enough runs at home to be worth picking if he's only going to produce this overseas IMO (unless they only brought him in overseas, which would be too sensible).

Need to push on and cross 300 here at the very least.

Not sure what middle order options we have on the sidelines that could strengthen this batting unit overseas.

India is still struggling to find a proper #6, its not as if there is anyone better availabile than him at this point, and Rahane is too skilled a player to be out for long.

The rot starts at the top though. If Shaw and Agarwal (and Gill) can forge a semi solid top order over the next few years, it eases the burden off the minnows in the tail. With Rahul and Vijay, we were getting zero breathing space at the top and their failures just filtered through the rest of the side.
