*Official* Sri Lanka Tour of New Zealand 2018/19

Awesome to watch Tom Latham, beautiful drives and punches. Ross and Kane missed out but that's hardly a concern. I'd rather more boys firing than just couple of them. To be honest this was expected, us making it easy vs Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is still rebuilding after that retirement of some of their legends. Hard road ahead for them.

Just wish we were playing at least one of England, India or South Africa given our form in test cricket currently. No offense to Sri Lanka or Bangladesh.

I was looking at our test schedule due to the other thread asking about India's.

When last did New Zealand tour SA and was Boult in the team yet ? Because it just seems like we tour you guys but not the other way in recent times.

NZ toured SA in Aug 2016. One test was drawn due to terrible drainage, and SA demolished us in the other one.

Was about to post this. McCullum had retired earlier in the year with his fastest 100 and Williamson was captain. We'd been to Zimbabwe just before when everyone except Nicholls scored runs and everyone was calling for his head before a gutsy knock in South Africa as we got slaughtered by the SA quirks.

It's extremely difficult to compare players from different eras, but as someone who was lucky enough to watch Glenn Turner bat, I'd say Latham has a lot to do if he's going to steal the ATG opener tag from Glenn Turner. Turner did things no other batsman had done before and he had the complete game, being able to dig in and bat forever or take a bowling attack apart.
I agree, Turner's the best NZ opener I've seen.

Didn't actually know about dumpsters record but Sutcliffe, Wright, Richardson and baz are all conclusively better

Ftr Latham averages 11 against South Africa to ravals 64. Lathams record against teams not called sl wi bangers Zimbabwe is woeful. Would be interesting to compare with guptill and mcintosh

As per future tours, South Africa is supposed to tour NZ in 2021-22... That's a long time away and not sure if by then the likes of Amla or Faf will still be around. That's a shame really.

33 test matches, 56 ODIs and 56 Twenty20 internationals coming up from now till Jan 2023. An average of 6.5 test matches, 11 ODIs and 11 Twenty20 internationals per year. This is outside of 1 ODI and 1 T20 world cup each during this time.

That seems like the ODIs are just being phased out. What's the point in T20 internationals... I'd rather have those converted to ODIs and leave the T20s to the leagues around the world.

Yeah as has been said, the schedule would be far better if we could exchange Bangladesh's visit this later this summer with one of India or England from next season. Would provide more interest this season and leave us less exposed to the inevitable injury crisis we will have in our huge 19/20 season.

It's good for Bangladesh though to have three tests here now they've improved a bit - I don't know if they've had a three test series in a SENA country before.

Expect us to get there in the end but could be a slog to pick up the wickets today (and tomorrow). Wagner and Ajaz will get a lot more overs and will need to make a couple of breakthroughs for us when SL establish a decent partnership. Might be this pair that do it.

he bowled plenty on day 4 at the Basin

That's the lot on life for an NZ spinner at home unfortunately - get wheeled out when the pitch is dead flat.

Would love to have Ferguson having a crack in a test match, besides Boult (who is marginally different from the rest) everyone else is bowling 130Km + a defensive spinner.

Who would Sri Lanka struggle against more, a spinner on a non turning deck, or potentially the fastest bowler in world cricket right now? Sometimes it seems the BC's selections are too safe IMO. Does CDG get more test cricket on the back of another flat track slog session for instance? I bet you he does.

Good article that on Southee, clearly doesn't deserve to be a first choice bowler in ODI cricket unless it's a green Seamer. I also think Milne get's an easy run into the top team without putting in the domestic performances required. Wheeler is a bit the same, T20 isn't his game but gets selected..

**** I sound a bit negative today! I'm just a bit over the status quo I guess.

Is anyone actively looking in to how often Aus have been tampering with the ball?

Bird and Hazlewood got it to reverse here in 2016. I haven't seen anyone achieve it since.

We're seeing what happens when Wagner lacks form. Bout is bowling heat here in the 140s but the others are still a bit dodgy on roads

Not sure why you'd want lockie in for Colin blain. That's a suicidal tail.

More reason to get rachin ready asap. If he can be sole spinner we can go with the perfect balance and include lockie
