Big call looming if Philander is fit for Cape Town. He has to play there given the record he has, plus the batting but it’s difficult to drop Olivier and you can't have no spinner at Newlands.
Olivier has bowled with some real pace...
9 in the match.

Good luck to Faf and co who have to tell him he sits out a Newlands which is now the quickest wicket inSA according to Hawkeye.

Not sure yet but I definitely think we need to start asking questions.

Who is our next world class batsman? Who have the most potential. Get the process started soon. It will be tough with no WC batsman but then we will need 5/7 batsman carrying their weight regularly.

Then we need to decide if we go with the all-rounder.
If I was forced to make changes right now... regardless of anything else. Bring in Hamza for Amla, bring in Mulder for de Bruyn/Bavuma.

I don't think Benkenstein is the best choice as batting coach, I'm actually fine with Gibson overall. I do like how the selection process has been pretty consistent and open. It is just can we make difficult choices. Faf has to stay and we have no other choice for captain at the moment. Elgar/Markram is the future choice.

Need to pick the next 2 best young batsmen whoever they are (Bedingham/Breetzke/Malan etc) and get them into the squad and into the team before December next year to rebuild.

Good luck trying to not play Philander at Newlands..... or dropping Steyn/Rabada. Maharaj not playing?

Great athleticism from Rabada.

Another great SA pitch.... bowl poorly get punished, bowl well get rewards. Pitch changes session to session needs adjustment and patience by both batsmen and bowlers.

Have to say Shan Masood looks a completely different player to his last run in this team.
Thought he looked really good in the first innings with a very good technique and then you see the average. He also scored a very good 75 against us on debut a few years ago.

Exceptional stroke play. This guy looks talented. Back to back boundaries always shift the pressure.

Yeah, looks much more at ease here. Every time he faced a quality swing bowler during his previous stint, he looked a walking wicket. Boult especially made him look silly at times.

Struggled with spin also.

From all accounts though, got a really god attitude, got the head down and earned his way back into the side. Compare him to someone like Umar then well night and day.

Getting into the SA pace team is tough tough tough... I mean Ngidi has not exactly done anything wrong!
So when Ngidi's fit again, does he come back into the squad as the fourth seamer or does Olivier stay there? If only we had similar problems in deciding which batsmen to leave out.
