Pakistan Tour of South Africa 2018/19

Think it's deliberate, particularly to left handers. Also trying to get some variable bounce with the ball going soft.

Why Maharaj has not come on yet I don't understand. He has been one of our stalwart bowlers the last 18 months, ties up an end, makes breakthroughs... need to bring him on sooner rather than later.
Absolutely zero in this surface for spinners. Worth a try for a few overs because we got to rest the quicks.

Not much for the spinners. But he's got to bowl, even if it is to just tie up an end so that we can try get the ball reversing.

We may be forced to do that if this has gone flat which normally happens day 2 and day 3 but if Pakistan have good players of spin you can score fast with the small ground, quick outfield and thin air. Spinners graveyard when there is no spin.

So when is Wiaan Mulder fit :D

Great session for Pak. Is the weather forecast for days 3, 4 and 5 still dodgy? South Africa will be praying it is as they have blown this.

Well batted Pakistan.

Hopefully a few of our big thinkers in the game realise pro-activity is needed for our test team. Big decisions to be made.

Dropping de Bruyn, Bavuma or Amla? Sigh... so many decisions to make so much uncertainty!
Not sure yet but I definitely think we need to start asking questions.

Who is our next world class batsman? Who have the most potential. Get the process started soon. It will be tough with no WC batsman but then we will need 5/7 batsman carrying their weight regularly.

Then we need to decide if we go with the all-rounder.

Another question that needs to be asked is that we need to ask why a few of our talented cricketers are stagnating ie Bavuma, de Kock to name but two. Are there the right people around this set-up to get Markram out of his current mental space? Last summer he was so confident in his defence, his leaving, his running and his shots of authority even during the tough pitches against India where he didn't get a lot of runs. I picked this up in the limited overs and MSL even if it is a different type of cricket even with his starts. To me he just never looked in full control. He might be one knock away from getting back in the groove but I sense people just think he is in a good head space and it will just happen.

How much longer do we give de Bruyn ? Do we give him the number of tests Bavuma has got ? So many questions to be answered.

Also think whilst Faf's captaincy is vitally important he hasn't scored runs at test level this whole year but from memory has looked in good nick. When he is scoring runs he gets the rest to follow.

This might sound heavy but lets be honest. We could see this coming when we've watched the test team despite the talent in it. We won 2 good series at home last summer that might have been the pinnacle. Without AB things are looking rather close v India/Australia. We get absolutely murdered in Sri Lanka when England win 3-0. I'm not going into the India and England away trips before that. Rather keep it more recent when it was evident players were on the wane and we have no AB.

Big call looming if Philander is fit for Cape Town. He has to play there given the record he has, plus the batting but it’s difficult to drop Olivier and you can't have no spinner at Newlands.

What's that ground where he's virtually unstoppable?
