the commentary mentioned the SA series from 2008-09 which iirc is where it got really egregious. there were like half a dozen perfectly clean catches ruled not out (from both sides) because the third umpire confused themselves by endlessly looking at 1fps replays from dubious angles
It's still a bit silly to say slowed-down replays from multiple angles is "objectively worse" than an umpire making a real time decision which he's not even sure of in the first place.

The soft signal is complete nonsense afaic. If the umpire is that unsure of the decision that he needs to send it upstairs himself (not the players using drs), then the on field decision should carry no weight.

Have to say, that's a horrible shot from Kohli right before lunch. Completely ruined what would have been an ok session.
He makes plenty of runs from that cover drive, can't just expect him to put it away. Shot was on IMO, ball just moved enough.

i mean i think that replays alone give the objectively wrong outcome on those situations a large proportion of the time unless the third umpire basically chooses to disregard what the picture is saying

I guess the issue is how do you then judge these catches? These happen all the time, and IMO the technology in this case is misleading. There is no perfect solution. The closest to a workable one is to give the soft call as out, and have an extremely high threshold to overturn it.

Just when the fans call for some spark, the Aussies cheat their way into a key wicket

Classic stuff.
I won’t be happy until we review all catches to obtain baseline data. It’s the scientific thing to do. However we must remember the technology can only view images in 2D and is therefore inferior to the human eye.

Hate to sound critical but he did flash a few times outside off, seemed to learn to be watchful after play and miss, but some time later did it again anyway.

without sounding cliched though, that really is the way he plays

BCCI currently on the phone to CA indicating that unless Kohli is allowed to bat on the tour will be cancelled.

In keeping with its usual spineless approach, CA is expected to allow him to continue after lunch
