It is actually a novel idea. In pitches where there is too much juice, Kohli can forego his ego and come at 5 sending Rahane at 4. Pujara and Rahane can blunt the new ball and with the confidence that India's best batsman is yet to come. Kohli can take advantage of it later. Pushing to 6 will be too much though.

If he'd bowled that ball from behind the line, Lyon would have middled it (and the other 15 as well) through mid wicket for four, thereby giving Australia a comfortable win. You know it.
