Also kudos to Jake Lehmann for playing his only shot in the dumbest possible manner with an over left in the day.

Just put a line through him. Renshaw so far this season for Aus A and Qld 153 runs in 7 innings. 2 ducks included. Lucky to get out of single figures 1st innings at Manuka. Dotted line through him atm.

He looked prime Hayden for Somerset a few months ago.

Right now he doesn't seem to score runs at the right time but he is young & probably still trying to work his game out. Definitely stay away for now.

Not sure how his innings went today but he did get two genuinely great nuts in his first Shield match and a 90-odd in the second.

Still far from ideal, though, especially given the one area where the incumbents actually scored runs was the openers....

If we stay away from him, who do you recommend plays instead?

You could of course go with him and say we believe you are the present and the future because you believe in him but then don't drop him as soon as problems come.

I actually think Bancroft was coming along nicely before the incident.

I did forget that Khawaja is not back so it does look like you have to go with Renshaw with Finch but ideally with your manner of selections you wanted Renshaw to make sure of selection with output over a little while because the next period is crucial for him.

If this is the case he will be ready. Do you open with him ? I probably would.
I'd like him at 3. In Australia Finch at 4 or 5. Marsh S (sigh) in the middle order. Gee it'd be nice if Renshaw could make a case and open with Burns. Otherwise I'm looking at Doolan or Harris as the other opener and I don't really want to go there. For six its Head, Maxie, M Marsh and Stoinis. I think Hanscombe is an easy wicket at international level given his style. Preference would be Maxie but if you want someone to bowl overs to support the pace trio then its Stoinis because M Marsh isn't bowling much atm. I can be talked out of the order bcos the way Finch and Khawaja played in the UAE but ideally would like this top order for the first test: Renshaw Burns Khawaja Finch S Marsh Stoinis.

Finch is generally good at getting starts. Always has been but if he starts against spin that might not even happen.

Agree on Uzzie. Ideally you want him 3. So many permutations. It could be an odd summer.

Yeah tbh, Renshaw’s managed to nick or miss some great balls this season. I mean, this doesn’t mean he’s not out of form now too but he’s had to cope with some great bowling.

I'm betting Renshaw doesn't get picked for this home summer and ends up with a thousand runs this shield season despite not playing tests.

And then Bancroft will get picked again despite not doing anything.

Burns is probably the batsman who deserves to next be in the national side based on his last few shield seasons. But he is even more or of favour than Renshaw.
