Tbh Jadeja's pretty serviceable on pitches that have something in it for him, but I fear he'll kinda get bullied in England, where the pitches have been made so that only the best bowlers can thrive (basically really really flat)

No bowlers can thrive on really really flat pitches. So I think Jadeja should be fine. FTR, I am still on the Jaddu hype train.

Yeah Jadeja in ODIs is useless. Even if Chahal and Kuldeep have a few bad games, I will still play them. They are partnership breakers, they take wickets against the momentum. Against stronger teams there is like 0.1/100 chance of Jadeja bowling a match turning spell. It's frustrating that he is back in contention.

The main issue is Bhuvi and Bumrah are indispensable in ODIs for their bowling and not known for their batting. Chahal and Kuldeep either. Jadeja brings in the much needed lower order batting for one of them especially when Dhoni is also playing.

But Jadeja is going to take a spot in first 4 bowlers aided by semi-bowler(s), at best Pandya or Jadhav. We can't afford to play 3 good bowlers + 20 overs of trundlers/dart-throwers. We need to need to pick our 4 best bowlers. If Chahal is to sit out, play Umesh or Shami.

Agree. I'd only consider Jadeja if Pandya was injured. Might be worth a spot in the squad based on that possibility alone though.

Umesh or Shami cannot bat as well. While every other team is strengthening their lower order for ODIs, India cannot afford to have 4 tail-enders on all pitches.

Bhuvi is not indispensable in ODIs. It's just a perception. Am almost certain Shami will do better if picked.

Agreed that Jadeja should only come if Pandya is injured, Dhoni or no Dhoni.

Agree with this, Bhuvi's general pattern is 55-1 and while his death bowling is sort of acceptable he definitely has a tendency to go for runs at times.

I think it's a situation where he is somewhat hiding behind Bumrah, Bumrah gives us 4/4 good overs, Bhuvi gives us 1/4 good overs and it looks like the pacers are bowling well when it;s really just the pressure Bumrah is creating.

Bhuvi is a weak link. Been average/bad in ODIs for a long time. It almost feels like the management have given him an automatic ODI spot to console him for getting dropped from the Test squad all the time.

He's not a weak link but I agree that he's not an automatic pick for the future as well.

Kohli stupidly hasn't given enough games to Shami and Umesh to keep them warm. Has played Khaleel and Shardul instead.

ffs why is Kohli now saying that Dhoni himself is just allowing younger players more opportunity, and saying that he is integral to the team, when in T20s at least, there are better alternatives.

Hope he's just saying this out of courtesy, and doesn't really mean it. Dhoni really is killing momentum in half of our games.
