How do Davo’s stats in the tied test stack up? I know he was the first bloke to score 100+ runs and take 10 wickets and did it in hat game iirc.

Might struggle with the batting stats - didn’t make a ton

My favourite memory of Harris is actually not the Cook ball, but his two late wickets on one knee to win that South Africa series. Not even convinced Warne or McGrath could've won that Test from that position. Sheer heroics.

Mighty impressive ranking for Harris that. Bowlers he left behind: Roberts, Lindwall and Fazal!

With the bat:

44 (3.73) & 80 (11.43)

With the ball:

5/135 (12.76) & 6/87 (14.89)

The 106 certainly does: 17.45, the 6th highest rated effort in a losing cause ever.

The 6/26 got 13.89 points, not quite a gold performance. It was a low scoring match, so the batting effort is worth more.
What are the best losing efforts for bat and ball?

Or would that involve spoilers?

I'm pretty sure that DoG has created this entire algorithm to prove once and for all that Jimmy is the goat.

Would be keen for a DoG 'peak' ranking thread - assuming 786 would be it for Botham
That would involve a lot of guess work. I think Botham would have been in the 800s earlier in his career since career is only worth 10% of the overall rating.

Career: 2010-2015
Wickets: 113
Gold Performances: 1
6/47 vs. England at Perth 2010 (16.29)
Silver Performances: 3
Bronze Performances: 2

Overall Average/Strike-Rate/Points Per Innings: 21.35 (23.52) 52.00 (50.76) 4.67
50 Innings Peak Average/Strike-Rate/Points Per Innings (2010-2014): 20.73 50.63 4.80
Non-Home Average/Strike-Rate/Points Per Innings: 20.57 48.19 4.88
Quality Opposition Average/Strike-Rate/Points Per Innings: 20.71 51.02 4.85

Considering his lack of test matches due to chronic knee trouble and the fact that he made his test debut at the age of 30, Ryan Harris has done superbly well to rank in the top 40. A superb record across the board. 23 of his 27 test matches were played against quality opposition.
Ryan Harris has done very well to finish this high

Much as I love the man, he probably got away with no tests in India or the UAE.

Still, he averaged 14 in Sri Lanka and his worst average anywhere was 30 in the West Indies.

As good as he was, that's far too high a ranking imo. But there's really no statistical measure to account for how unique his career was.

Update:

I've decided to give equal measure to wickets and career length. I feel that bowlers of yesteryear are disadvantaged from not having the opportunities to play as many matches and thus take as many wickets as their modern-day counterparts. It also rewards quality over a long time as opposed to a three or five year career that coincided with a bowler's peak.

Not much has changed. Some bowlers have moved up or down a few positions. But nothing too drastic. Johnny Briggs replaces Nathan Lyon in the top 100 for now.
