It's a legitimate defence if he was actually more likely to score runs batting like that than trying to bat "properly", tbh. It may be the case too; he's a complete hack with the bat. I don't think he played that shot because he thought they needed quick runs -- he played that shot because playing that way maximised his chances of making a significant contribution. It's his natural game, but.
When it comes to Simon Milenko, it's like getting mad a drug dealer for having crack on the menu. And that's what you get when you pick a specialist slogger at #6. I guess he did end up bowling six overs today, but still.

Yes. the ability to consolidate, and in FC/Tests, to grind out an innings if need be seems to have largely disappeared, so very few teams seem to be able to bat out draws hence why most Australian tests end in results despite the terrible pitches and balls.Mackenzie Harvey was fun to watch for a bit. Clearly wasn't picking Qadir at all though (don't think anyone was). I don't want to be one of those guys but seriously is T20 cricket destroying modern batsmen? They're coming in at 4 or 5 down in the 20th over and still taking risks to score at a-run-a-ball. Tassie did it yesterday and now Vics today. It's like they've lost the ability to consolidate and build in an innings, you don't have to be going at SR 100 from the get go every innings.
I don't think so, go back 15-20 years and I doubt innings of 22 (22) were common for players on debut coming in at 4-70.Isn't it more to do with the young bats not knowing how to build an innings yet. Though there seems to be just a massive lack of awareness in general
Isn't that down to poor coaching then?I don't think so, go back 15-20 years and I doubt innings of 22 (22) were common for players on debut coming in at 4-70.
