South Africa team selection

Fair enough. Physically he looks immense. I had my doubts initially, but feel that 500+ is definitely on. Getting through his last couple of months must have given him a lot of confidence - skill is obviously still there.

Also I was recently thinking, how good would it be to watch Steyn and Anderson opening the bowling? Ridiculous
In swinging English conditions good luck to the openers !

What do we think Jimmy Anderson is playing for now ? The record in tests, The Ashes, or just hoing with the flow and pure lov for the game ?

I think taking 101 wickets @ 15.87 at home in the past 3 seasons has something to do about it.

No real loss to the test team as he was never a real option, struggling to keep his place in the ODI side. Sad for the FC level, but think it may be good to give the younger generation a shot at potential Test spots.
He loved the red ball game and to be fair to him he gave it his best shot.

But modern limited overs and T20 cricketers are in demand now and they are branching away from FC cricket with so many t20 tournaments. Think he is an icon player for new UAE T20 and there is the T10 never mind Canada t20, CPL, PSL, AFL , IPL and Big Bash. Never mind our new T20. Its non stop.

Geez and how many tours does he have left in him you think ?

Sri Lanka, West Indies & South Africa the next 3 ?
Possibly, it depends on the injuries imo, he's at that age now where you never know when an injury is going to end it all. But certainly he has good records in Sri Lanka and the West Indies, so that should help his longevity a bit.

No QDK? But otherwise a surprisingly strong squad. Opportunities being given to all. Not sure how I feel about Zondo!

Edit: Morris still injured?

I'm starting to think too much has been put on young Mulder's shoulders.
The problem is really that no allrounder has been able to stake their claim since Kallis retired. So Mulder putting in the performances that he has means that expectations are going to be high. So they need to be careful how they handle him as we definitely don't want to see him get burnt out or go off the rails at an early age.

How is Gihahn Cloete in the squad? He averages 14 in T20s, and hasn't done much in other formats.

Particularly an allrounder capable of scoring hundreds as a batsmen. I think that is what makes him gold. I suppose he will miss 1 4-day game and then play 1,2,3 4-day games for the Lions before we tour Australia.

It is very odd. Having watched him through the ranks as a youngster I would have said 4-day cricket is his best chance of succeeding because he couldn't get on with the game. Last season his 50-over cricket kicked off but it isn't because he is a hitter. Then his keeping which is very average doesn't matter as QdK and Klaasen are in the squad.

For Border his opening partner Marco Marais has scored 2 100s in 2 games in Africa T20 Cup.
